I teach tennis at a country club, and one of the benefits of working at a country club is I can play golf for free.

Started playing about a month ago, once a week and scored my first par last Monday (I was an inch away from getting my first birdie... on a par 4).

Anyone else besides Bye Week play here? I know MikeAdams played and I think @gilesfan (http://www.chopcountry.com/forums/member.php?u=99) mentioned he plays/played on the old forum.

Golf is probably going to be my side hobby now. Just picked up a great deal on Nike Covert Tour Driver at Dick's for $149.99 (it was listed as 299, but the guy scanned it and the Tour's were ringing up as on sale even though they weren't supposed to be LOL). I also spent about 3 hours at the PGA Superstore in Atlanta yesterday just hitting balls in the simulation cage. Going to look for an iron set on eBay or craigs if I can find a good deal.

On a side note, I've been hooked on Tiger Woods '14 on PS3...

Play all the time. Still suck. Im perfect for team play. I can crush it off the tee. But gets ugly real fast after that. If I had any kind of a short game, I may actually be decent at it. Love playing though.

This is my 18th month playing now. I'm so hooked. I still suck and frequently score in the high 90's or low 100's but I've only had I summer of playing. Winter golf is really tough.

Me to a tee, though I don't play all the time. When I play consistently, I can get in the 80s.

lol Turbo I'm the same pretty much.

I can drive the hell out of the ball but my iron and approach play absolutely suck. I'm also excellent at putting.

Was a LOT better in high school, went to college and hardly ever played. Game went to hell in a handbag because I got into a bad habit of "casting" the club at impact and it's a killer to break. Use to shoot in the upper 70s, low 80s in HS, but now I'm a low 90s guy until I get my short game and putting and consistency at impact back.

Enjoy it but with lil ones running around I haven't been able to practice or play much.

I am terrible, but I enjoy going. It's an expensive habit though. Although you aren't paying for it, so I guess you wouldn't know.

Bout to pull those sticks out boys. We have almost touched 80 degrees on the weekends down here and the itch has returned. Our course had a Demo day and I had a chance to hit the new Taylor Made SLDR, and woah. My problem has always been to high ball flight. I often have to roll my ball out of the divot on softer fairways. Basically I get too much backspin off the tee (9 Degree R11s) and had 10 swings with that new Taylor Made at 10.5 degrees and it made a HUGE difference in my carry and roll. Our Edwin Watts has a 90 Day play guarantee where I can play with it for 3 months and if I don't like it, bring it back for store credit.

Also messing around with the Odyssey Tank Belly Putter. Its counterweighted and gives the stroke a very under control feel.

My Nike Covert Tour is adjustable, but it's set on 10.5 and my drives have been down the middle perfect.

I'm going to start looking for a hybrid and more wedges.

The RBZ hybrid is an excellent hyrbrid and just went on sale. I have a vokey 52 and mizuno 60. Bought the vokey used for 20 bucks.

I went to the PGA Superstore in suburban Atlanta and swung in the simulator for like 4 hours. Felt like a kid in a candy shop.

Gonna go back there in about 2 weeks, going to look for a hybrid.

Went to the range today. First time I touched my clubs since last season. Hot my irons as well as I ever have. Driver was okay. I still can't get hybrids figured out though.

Hit 5 bags of balls yesterday, can't say it got better as the day went on. Got a scramble today just for kicks.

Finally had a chance to play a little bit of the past few weeks. Played a best ball tourney late June which was the first time I played in a bout a year. Then 2 weeks ago played 4 rounds at Pinehurst (1 best ball; the other scores ranged from 93-96). Played again Saturday and shot 92.

If I could manage to get out 2-4 times per month, I have no doubt I could knock 10 strokes off, I just have to find a way to do it. My short game really improves with consistent play and I've always been able to put and hit the ball a long way.

Its 4-5 bad holes that really hold me back. I had 6 pars. I frequently go through 4-5 hole stretches at between 1 under to 1 over, but will drop 4-5 double bogeys a round.

Also, I bet if I really wanted to go for low score without having fun, I could run up a 7 iron 165 yards on every par 4/5 tee shot and probably shoot 85. But, who wants to do that?

Our golf trip is probably headed to Pinehurst next year. Looking forward to knocking that one off the list. Haven't played since early may here.

I can give you some advice on Pinehurst.....but I've never played the actual Pinehurst courses as they are pretty expensive. We stay at the Comfort Inn, which is a great spot and right next to awesome sports bar. We plan packages through first tee and usually get 3 rounds plus 2 nights at less than $250 per person.

Lagacy is my favorite course down there. You also have to play Tobacco Road once and probably only once just to say you played it. Its the most interesting course I've ever played.

We were looking at staying in a lake house on vrbo instead of on property.

So I'm starting to get a little better now. Able to shoot in the mid 90's now. Still having issues with being consistent off the tee as well as chipping around the green.

Golf has become such an addiction to me though. Can't really focus on anything else for too long without thinking about where my next round is going to be.

Finally starting to play some and am joining a private country club. Handicap down to 17 right now. Im hoping to be close to 10 by the end of next year.

My handicap is at 22 right now. Not horrible from what I'm told for someone with less than 3 years of experience and no lessons.

I thought about joining a club but I prefer to play multiple courses and if I commit to a club then I just will feel obligated to play the same course over again.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem playing the same course. I've played every course in the area and this club is 5 mins away and I'd like to just walk up and play. Plus free range and pool plus bar/restaurant and a gym. They have some pretty cool scrambles, mens groups, tournaments, etc. It's essentially the cost of playing a nice course 1.5 times per month.
