Just watched the ceremonies locally. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed -- especially in comparison to the stunning boringness of Beijing and London. The Russians didn't shrink away from their Communist history at all, which was really cool to me.

In Soviet Russia, ceremonies open you.

Awesome opening ceremony, even the very zippy all male choir singing the Russian National anthem. I'll bet Putin wanted to take off his shirt and sing along.

That is one killer looking stadium.

So it was the pink ring that didn't turn for Putin. That's so perfect.

I don't know what it is about winter olympics and hotties but they have them. Much more so than the summer ones.

Putin has installed a new event just for him. It's the one man shirtless bobsled.

Opening ceremonies made me feel like I needed shrooms to understand it. It was awful.

Who was the figure skater from Russia that tweeted the pic of Obama and the banana? or was that all rumor?

Winter Olympics are ***. They had to introduce X game style stuff to try to keep people interested. Only so much skating and skiing crap you can do to keep people's attentino.

I only watch Hockey during the Olympics and right now Team USA is putting on a clinic vs Slovakia - up 7-1 in the 2nd period with 6 goals scored in the 2nd

You basically have like 4 teams who're actually competitive for hockey, US, Canada, Russia and Sweden. I'm sure since I said that the Fins or someone will have a surprise tournament, but in their group the US and Russia should take care of business. My concern with the US is can Quick match Miller's performance at the last Olympics. That was the big reason we made it as far as we did was Miller's dominance. We had the best goalie in the tournament and it tooka fluke shot to not win gold.

Whoever the guy is that screams during cross country/biathalon is aweome. Lamest sports with like no photo finishes and he's screaming.

There are a lot of good teams that can spoil things for others. The US has looked really good against everyone.

Still looking like it's a 4 horse race. Russia looking weaker but the US and Canada looking stronger.

I'm hoping Slovokia beats the Czechs, Czechs are a much better team. The bummer is our gold medal rematch would be in the semi's assuming us and canada get out of the quarters. Sweden and Russia/finland will be making their way to the semis.

Russians choked again. Canada drawn with Latvia so far. US cruising over Czech's so far. Sweden rolled.

NBC is going for the most depressing with the least amount of sports coverage olympics ever.

Unless one of the 2 teams pulls a Russia it won't. They play hard and aren't too far off as competitors.

I was surprised Miller wasn't given the start today with the quick turnaround from yesterday's game

Quick wasn't the reason that they lost, as he made some spectacular saves in the 1st period. Scoring chances just weren't buried. However, Team USA did kind of give up after it got to be 2-0. After the big showing in the preliminary round, it sticks 9 miles up my ass that they were scoreless in the playoffs.

The first goal was a screw up, the second one was bad defense, the 3rd and 4th were power play IIRC so that's kinda **** luck.

I mean the offense is more to blame. But last Olympics Miller made insane saves one after another to keep the US in games. US can get a little aggressive and I think Quick is more of a heady keeper ala Brodeur than Miller who's more of an athletic type. Both have their advantages, and Marty Brodeur IIRC won more Stanley Cups than Dominick Hasek (who didn't win any until he came out of retirement to play in Detroit)
