I just have two questions, and I'm going to try my best to avoid bashing anyone.

First, what is everyone's thoughts on what a hitter in the second spot of the lineup should be able to do? Second, if I assume correctly and those of you who answer know what you're talking about, Does BJ fit that description?

Simmons is the best guy available. Doesn't strike out, decent pop, decent walk rate, and has some speed. And ideally I think that's what you want.

Yeah he has a ton of good qualities at the plate. Just needs to be more consistent and try to not smash 20 home runs again. That is where a lot of his pop ups come from. I would be perfectly fine with him hitting around .270 with an on base around .360

All the statistics say that batting order doesn't matter much over the course of the season - That being said I think most of us can agree that a huge part of baseball is the mental side of the game - The smart and easiest choice would have been to have hit BJ somehwere lower in the order in the first place. That being said once we hit him 2nd, I think it would be a big mistake to move him down one week in, especially when over half the lineup is struggling as is.

I don't think he will ever walk enough to have a ISO OBP over 100. More like the 50-60 range.

Or hit into an obscene number of double plays. What would be ideal is someone who makes great contact and is a right hander who slaps. Cause with Jason that would open up tons of gaps on the right side.

Order doesn't matter, but that said, BJ gets maybe 30 more PA hitting 3 than 7. Higher up in the order is key for that reason.

What kind of rioders did you play with in little leage?

I kid you not. We had to play a team from Harrisburg, Il in the playoffs. Dudes came off a bus, not normal cars or trucks back what 1978 or so. They look like they came from juvenile detention center, some had actual facial hair.

I threw my supposed heater, he hit it over the flood wall (300 ft away), into the trees into the Ohio River canal, foul ball. This was the leadoff hitter. I was like, no one has done that on me all year, is these guys in high school?

So I went to my hook and he took my 3rd basemen's glove off. Then I proceeded to lose six baseballs, all of them over 300 feet, clearing the 270 ft fence and the 300 foot flood wall. No way you can retrieve balls that moccasins and copperheads would bite your ass if you went looking for them. We lost 20 - 6 in 5 innings, I gave up 12 runs on 6 homers. I did hit one myself because I was mad because I lead off and the pitcher purposely hit me.

What was sad, those mfers remembered me when we played them in high school as they are in our regional. They lit my ass up again. Two homers in relief and the coach asked why they were laughing. I told them I met them in the playoffs and the two that hit homers, hit two apiece against me then. When we shook hands after the game they asked, where you the pitcher from that small town that had the flood wall and the river creek behind it? I said yes and they said, man you throw some nice meatballs and then smack me on the back.

I swear the dude looked like he did some time in the pen. I think one of them were drafted by the Cardinals or Reds, can't remember.
