GIL GAINING GROUND ON LOST TIME

Don't know when the "J" became a "Y" but Yean-Carlos Gil has gotten off to the best start of any reliever in the Braves' system. So far for lowly Rome, he's worked 9.1 innings, allowing no runs, just 2 hits, with 3 BB and 9 strikeouts.

Three hitless innings Tuesday. Gil worked in just 13 games in 2013 (11 starts) and just five in 2012.

The good news is the lefty is just 23.

Bad news for another promising lefty. Carlos Perez walked four in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday, leaving him with a 19.29 ERA.
That breaks down thusly: in four games this year (Same as Gil), he's worked only 2.1 IP, allowing 2 hits, 11 walks, and just 2 Ks.

Gosselin with another hit. Average at .441. La Stella's average at .233. Kind of glad the mob baying for La Stella didn't get their wish. I like the kid but I think he will benefit from some time in AAA.

Salcedo with a double and home run, the homer off Kevin Gausman.

Cody Martin with five strong innings so far: no runs, 2 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. Could help the big team this year.

TLS has 38 PA, 3K 5 BB, his downside is his power is slightly down. but his BABIP right now is .200, that's why his average is low. Considering TLS's lowest BABIP was .298 his numbers would look way better.

Yeah, he's hit in some bad luck. But he'll be a better player after half a season in AAA. I'm not saying he won't help us at some point this year.

rico, Gil's name not only changed, but I'm still trying to figure out if he throws LH or RH. I always had the impression he was RH and Baseball Reference shares that impression. Gil was on the fast track until his arm surgery.

I was wondering whether or not Sean Kazmar's into music would be "Rock the Casbah," but then I realized he wasn't born when that song came out.

Good eye! Baseball American's Super Register (I confirmed this morning) has always called him Yean Carlos beginning in 2012. But they have him listed as a right-hander! I guees someone here will actually have to see him pitch with one arm or the other.

So how old was Chipper when "Crazy Train" came out?

What I want to know is if any player has ever used Beck's "Loser" for walkup music?

new kind of Tommy John surgery. Turned him into a lefty in 2012.
