What would you say is a good number for him to play?

120-130?

Outside of maybe Yadi, most C's get 1-2 days off a week.

+inifinity

He needs rest from time to time. I didn't agree with the Philly thing as he could play a serviceable left field and need his bat (we lost that game and I think he would have brought us a win), but night to day game after a grueling game last night, he deserves a day off.

In reference to Gattis, go ahead and get it out of your systems now because ANYTIME there is a day game following a night game, El Oso Blanco will be on El Bencho. Put it in the books.....Put a stamp on it and email it to yo self.

I understand they want to keep him fresh given this is the first year he'll be the primary catcher in the majors. But I don't think there is an issue with his knees that would preclude his occasionally catching a day game after a night game.

Gattis has had bad knees since college. Just because he hasn't had 30 surgeries on them (yet) doesn't mean they are the knees of a 18 year old kid. I never bitch at a staff that values the long term health of a player.

Not game related but crazy Carlos Gomez just pulled the same stunt he did against the Braves against the Pirates, except it didn't go out. Garret Cole was ready to take his head off and Gomez lost his mind again. MLB needs to suspend this punk or the Brewers need to bench him before he gets players hurt. His teammates have to be worried they are going to get hurt trying to protect this punk.

Freddie and Bossman are both at fault. Bossman more so though. With a runner at 3rd and no outs and someone like Schafer there's literally like 4 ways to not have him score. Popup, K, and HBP and walk. Swinging bunt or hard hit grounders are iffy. any kind of hit, or deep fly ball and most grounders would score him.

Carpenter always sucked until last year. Last year was a fluke.

What does anyone see in Hale? His stuff and command are weak. He's a reliever.

You have to consider yourself lucky to get Hale through 5. Asking him to go 6 is a recipe for a loss. Guy is bad at pitching

Joke we didn't cash in there against turd relievers. And people, lets be honest about BJ Upton is better than last year and yet is still terrible.

Gattis swung at a horrible pitch, he s lied about being more selective this year.

BJ is the worst starter in baseball.

The good news is he likes the rest of the team. I think.

Good old save statistic dominating how to manage. Its just so simple. If we give up a run we lose - if we take the lead we have the leeway to give up a run and not lose. Yet because of a statistic the better pitcher has to pitch in the lower leverage situation. Not even blaming Fredi here - its for the most part a league wide rule. None the less so far so good. Need one more out here.

Frankly, Uggla's defense was the principal argument for not giving La Stella more of a chance. A few more games like this, and Uggs will have to be tearing the cover off the ball to merit keeping his job. I had a flashback to the all-star game, when he was the punchline to nearly every joke.

If he had determined that it would be best not to use Walden and Kimbrel today (and I think not using them was a reasonable call), should Fredi have given a second inning to a couple of the other relievers. Pitch counts were 11 for Thomas, 10 for Carpenter, 17 for Varvaro and 18 for Avilan. Thomas and Avilan were not pinch hit for. If he knew he was working with a 5 man pen in a close game that was likely to go extra inninings, why not use one or two of those guys for two innings.

I think his contention is that La Stella's defense, if not worse, isn't markedly better enough to hand him the job over Uggla.

Just had time to look back at the highlights... referring back to Harper's lack of hustle for the Nats... sad to see that JUP had a bit of his own lack of hustle on his triple. He was basically jogging from home to first... rounded first at a decent clip and then slowed again before picking it back up. He was standing at third before the cut-off man even got the ball. If he was running full speed, he scores.

Oh well, though. Can't win them all.

Big difference on how the two organizations handle these things, and I'm thinking our approach is better. Old school types love it when their mgr chews the star players ass out for not hustling but over time in most cases its the mgr who loses, not the player. Matt Williams is already on a slippery slope. He's come over from the D'Backs, where they favor grit over talent. They must have thought that's what they needed, I'm not sure it'll work.

Not really a fan of Fredi overall, but the more laisse faire approach with guys like Justin is wise, IMO. He is what he is (Justin)

The biggest players manager off all-time would bench players for lack of hustle. (Bobby)

In the end, talent wins. If the talent is good enough, it makes it look as if the manager made the right call.

p.s. no chance Justin scores on that.

Disagree. Still think the Nats are more talented than the Braves, and they certainly didn't win last year. Managers having the ability to get the most out of their players trumps the most talent sometimes.
