GRAHAM GETS 4TH START IN COMEBACK

No one, would have predicted the comeback thus far for J.R. Graham, Braves' top pitching prospect, circa 2012. Graham has worked 13.1 innings over his three starts so far, totaling 8 hits, no earned runs (one unearned run which gave him a 1-0 loss), two walks but just four strikeouts. Hitters are flailing away at a .190 clip.

None of Graham's starts have topped 70 pitches, so he is not yet at 100 percent. Keep in mind, when he was healthy, he began his pro career with a 17-4 record before his shoulder bummed out last year. The thing to keep in mind is that he has not had surgery; he rehabbed it the old school way.

TRADE: Braves have sent Gwinnett SS Tyler Greene to the Padres for a PTBNL. Greene will be assigned to El Paso, where he will harass Jeff Francoeur.

Mycal Jones was activated off DL Tuesday for Gwinnett. Carlos Perez has been put on the Miss. DL with "viral infection." Ugh.

Tyler Vail has joined Rome after Lafreniere retirment (see below).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Graham in the Atlanta bullpen at some point this season.

LAFRENIERE RETIRES

Rome Braves Opening Day starter Frank (Francois) Lafreniere has announced his retirement. Lafreniere this season was 1-3 with an 8.83 ERA in four starts. Coming into the 2014 season his record was 18-18 with a 4.48 ERA. Lafreniere hails from St. Bruno, Canada and was 47th round selection by the Braves in 2010.

Ouch. He should just play in some local Canadian league.

Just curious to you experts out there... because of Graham's injury, does he project as a reliever or starter?

Kimbrel is locked in for a few years, but we still need decent setup men and middle innings relievers.

Given Carpenter's uneven performance and the fact Walden is going to get expensive, I wouldn't be surprised if Graham went to the pen at some point (like Wood last season) and swing back to starting if necessary.

Hard to say what to expect out of Graham. The drop in his strikeout rate is a concern, but it might be another month or two before he returns to full arm strength, whatever that is post shoulder injury.

Tyler Tewell is off to a nice start in Lynchburg. Good defensive catcher. Bat might be coming around.

He has not topped 60 pitches in any outing thus far.
