Mind blowing that Pena is on the bench and Uggla is back in there.

Actually it's really not surprising.

Its a joke. But not surprising as you said. I think Frank is going to have to do the dirty work for Fredi and release Dan. This whole saga reflects very badly on Fredi.

I get the joke, but putting Fredi in the lineup as C is confusing to those who don't.

It now seems like the front office is putting some sort of pressure on Fredi to play Uggla as often as possible, hoping that some team will see something in him. The Braves simply releasing a player with that type of money owed is well, unprecedented -- and this is really the only explanation that I can conjure up as to why he's still playing (aside from sheer idiocy).

I do have faith the situation will resolve itself in short order, expedited by the Braves recent poor play.

He doesn't need to be released. He can be on the bench, then DLed with the slightest injury.

My read is the opposite. Fredi is the one who is afraid of upsetting his little brother.

I highly doubt Uggla would go that gently into the good night.

I understand how competitive he is and all that. But he needs to be able to put the team first and accept that its best interests would be served by him spending more time on the bench.

My read is the opposite. Fredi is the one who is afraid of upsetting his little brother.

If that's true (and I suppose on some level it could be) then I would quickly realign myself as an advocate for Fredi's dismissal.

I've always thought Gonzalez was a strong, silent type of leader -- but this would indicate a sheer lack of backbone.

Uggla has 24 million reasons not to flat-out retire. He can get released and collect the payday and someone can sign him for the minimum. Trouble is, I don't know what the minimum salary is in t-ball leagues.

You're kind of agreeing, but saying he's only been bad for 6 months is just not accurate. He's been a bad player for years now, and terrible for a good amount of that time.

So, he was bad in 2011? 2012? No. He wasn't great, but a .750 OPS and 20+ homers from your 2nd baseman is nothing to be ashamed of.

Agreed. But if you are in a management position, it must simply be too hard to sit an expensive piece. I'd be elated never to see Dan again. Pastornicky is a young, hungry player, wish we could just hand him the job and see what happens.

Yeah, I think that's what they're going to do. Coincindentally, Wood is scheduled to start again Sunday, which would be the perfect amount of time for Gavin Floyd to come back and start. That coupled with the need for a second lefty in the bullpen and wanting to limit Wood's inning makes the move logical.

I don't know how many others are in a similar situation but I live in the Cardinals broadcast footprint so I'm forced to watch their games against the Braves on their regional Fox sports network rather than Atlanta's.

On the plus side their broadcasters are knowledgable. However, I've never listened to a more smug, condescending, and arrogant group in my life. Maybe if we had their postseason success, we'd be the same way but, as it is, it's just annoying.

There's little logical reason to be pessimistic about this squad, as a whole. We were the youngest team in baseball last year and won 96 games. We've been terrible offensively and are in 1st. So yes, if you're pessimistic, it's just kind of silly and you're a natural whiner.
