Nice start for Hursh.

Meneses is on a totally unsustainable tear. OPS of--get this--1.630 over his past ten games. SLG > 1.000 over that stretch. Hope he likes the cuisine in Virginia.

How is Hursh's GB\FB rates?

The things you can find when you are goofing around on the internet. Meneses got his first taste of winter ball playing for the Tomateros de Culiacan in the Mexican Pacific League last winter and put up an OPS of .907 in 19 games. I take a jaundiced view of winter ball statistics, but as a 21-year-old in a league with a lot of older players, I think Meneses' performance says that maybe it was a very positive experience for him and something that he could build on. No question his performance thus far this year has been eye-opening.

Hursh's GO/AO is 2.25. Only 4 HRs surrendered in 47 IP.

Thats pretty strong ?

If so, I could see how this guy could fly under the "prospect handbook" radar as a high velo guy with just a boat load of groundballs.

I think it's really strong. I don't know for certain and what the statistical z-scores are for the distribution, but I've always thought anyone higher than 1.5 GO/AO is pretty impressive in that department. Greg Maddux' career GO/AO was 1.87 and the major league average during is 1.08. So it looks like Hursh has that heavy fastball ala Kevin Brown, whose career GO/AO was 2.16. One difference between Brown and Hursh (to this point) is K-rate. Brown's was 6.6/9 over his big league career and Hursh's is at 5.6/9 and he hasn't hit the big leagues yet. Of course, small sample size and Hursh is still on his development arc. I really like Hursh as a prospect.

Hursh is doing well considering he got an aggressive promotion to AA. He isn't replicating Alex Wood's success on the same path, but what Wood did last year was pretty special.
