For Mississippi, one of those nights....

When David Bromberg began the night with a 2.14 ERA and ended it with a 4.14. Was in a one-run game when gave up grand slam en route to nine earned. But bad break for three others; Mychal Jones diving would-be catch with two out ruled trap and 3 runs scored.

Bullpen awful also: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER.

Miss DL includes Hefflinger (wrist sprain, May 2); Lipka (hand contusion, May 7); Gus Nunez (hamstring, May 8).

BUT....

Elmer Reyes 2-4, now hitting .364. Kyle Kubitza had two doubles and is up to .284.

That Peraza kid is the real deal IMO. He can hit and run and play very good defense.

I cannot wait to see him in Atlanta.

What's your eyeball on Kubtiza? His listed height/weight puts him in the "big guy" category, but his stats don't show that much power (especially power per K). He's always had good on-base skills, but I wonder, given his contract rate, where his development arc will take him.

Also, Elmer Reyes may be our next Martin Prado. Seems like his bat has started to really progress. Obviously I'd like to see him walk a bit more, but anyone that knows about Reyes, can he play 3b as well? Seems like maybe once Peraza is ready in '16 we could flip Reyes over to 3b. Obviously thinking/hoping too much into the future.

Peraza will be our leadoff hitter by the time we are in the new stadium.

Peraza is as exciting prospect as we have had in a while.

Reyes played some 3B at Rome in 2011, where the management had the bright idea of shuffling the middle IFs around every game. Reyes shuttled between SS, 2B, and 3B. Salcedo played 3B and was pretty much the regular there, but Matt Lipka, Matt Weaver, and Reyes shuffled around until La Stella arrived after the draft and Reyes was sent back to Danville. He's gotten progressively better since that trip back to Danville, which I shows that he was rushed a bit even after a really nice season in Danville in 2010.

I think a couple of the other posters have actually seen Reyes in spring training and in minor league action. It's my impression that he's a middle IF. He's probably never going to walk much and never hit for much power. I'm guessing he's a middle IF back-up for us (and probably for most teams) and possibly a starting SS in the right situation (which won't be Atlanta with Simmons here). Supposedly has a solid glove, so if he can hit some, he could be a valuable guy at the big league level.

Honestly, and despite the fact that I know better, I'd love to see what he can do in Mississippi right now.

What position does Peraza play?

What position does Peraza play?

The real question is, what position DOESN'T he play?

Think Prado 2.0
