Terrible call. His foot clearly came off and went right into Simmons' glove.

That's why I don't really support the new replay system. You have to get it right if you're going to hold up the game.

Good win tonight, a lot like last year vs Colorado so far. We won a lot of close games against them the last few years in fact. Floyd with another good game and quality start vs a good hitting team. Pena with a big double and Laird with his best game of the year at the plate. He was sitting on that slider wisely and got a hanger and nailed it for the game winning RBI hit. Kimbrel was great again and it seems the rest has really helped him. He has his velocity back here lately and that's great.

Good to hear the Nats and Miami Marlins lost too. Though I don't see the Marlins as a real threat after they lost their ace. The Nats should only get better once they get their full line-up back though. So we need to build a nice lead like last year if we want a good shot to repeat.

CJ, did it ever occur to you that you don't have to swing at every single low and outside pitch? Idk why anyone would throw you anything else.

Evidently CJ threw a tantrum after striking out in his first AB. It also appears his tirade endangered other people, his teammates took exception to it, and Fredi benched him.

I appreciate fire in a player and I've often wished that Braves players showed more of it. That said, CJ needs to grow up and fix his immature behavior--which were all points he readily admitted in the post game interview.

I don't care...I love CJ's passion...I love when a player gets mad at himself when he does not succeed...Holds himself accountable...Dan strikes out in a big spot and gets mad at the pitcher and gracefully walks back to the hell hole

Yea that is what it sounds like happened. Good that he was honest about it as usual, but he needs to stop being such a hot head.

That was a great play and good bounce for us that it went to the strong armed Simmons. Not sure they'd gave Pena an error though as it was a bullet and CJ has bullets right at him go by and off him at times with no error charged. Though Pena has some range unlike Johnson so maybe they'd been harder on him. They are much harder on Simmons at times so wouldn't surprise me. But Simmons is expected to get to almost everything because he so often does.

Here's the play if anyone wants to see it again (I just posted it on twitter): Andrelton Simmons makes a great play on a grounder deflected off Ramiro Pena http://alturl.com/qvewb

Maybe our hitting coaches are tired of me ripping them apart about approach.

Yeah, let's lessen our chances to score a run there.

What are you new? Getting a runner to third base with one out lessens our chances to score? As opposed to have a runner at second base with 1 and then 2 outs? Please tell me how your scenario is a better run scoring opportunity than a simple sacrifice would have been? I am damn glad you aren't a manager of a team.

While you aren't wrong about this...the singles/walk hitter was never supposed to be Heyward. He could still be a leadoff guy and hit for power. I always envisioned a Grady Seizmore esque guy when Heyward started to settle in the leadoff spot.

I think he will get there by seasons end. He had a good power stroke in ST and I suspect that will return soon. He's hitting the ball to left with regularity right now and I think the power will follow. He's also been robbed of a few doubles lately too.

I agree with this. The fact that he's hitting with consistency is great, but I think it's what he's been working out, let him get his consistent swing under him and I think the 2B, 3B and HR's will come.

If Heyward is going to try to swing for opposite field singles and the like to get on base then I want to see him finish the year with a 300+ avg and 400+ OBP. With his baserunning and defense he would still be one the most valueable players in the sport.

Yeah, I'm with you. I still think he'll be that guy.

There are two things going on there. One, he's got a hole (inside third) and he knows it. Two, he's a tinkerer and sometimes makes a tweak that doesn't work and it takes a while for him to rinse it out (what we saw in April). By the time he's 27-28 he'll know his swing better and won't hit these heavy slumps.

He is a very smart player. I'm hoping he eventually fixes whatever is causing him to tie himself up on the inside pitch. A series of hits to the off field tells me he's close.

I am a batting average guy myself...but I think whats being overlooked here is the fact that he has thrown up some GREAT ABs..they may not have ended the way he would have liked but he is working counts, getting better pitches, and making pitchers work...and thats EXACTLY what hitters need to be in today's game...Hes starting to get it because he has been doing it more consistently...

Is this a serious question? A runner at 2nd with no outs gives us a better chance to score than a runner at 3rd with one out. It's the law of averages. Why give up an out? I don't care if Uggla is up.

Niners, I'm pretty sure this is irrational. He hasn't hit as consistently as the hype suggested, but it's not like he's a palsy out there. He's got learning to do, and he seems willing and able to do it.

He's not hitting the inside pitch and he's not hitting lefties. I think he ought to open up his stance to give him a longer look, some more time and room to open his hips. He looks more closed off to me than he was his rookie year. That might help both against lefties and on the inner third.
