Veteran leadership is like pitching. You can't have too much of it. That's why I wish Hinske were back. He looked huge as the Cubs first base coach.

I'm sure he did. He gained five pounds a year for each of his twelve years as a player. Without having to waddle out to home plate and swing a bat every other day, he might weigh 500 pounds in a year or two.

actually a lot of his HR's are line drive shots that may just hit the wall in Fenway. Might even be singles. Of course Gattis ( and JUp as well) will have no trouble clearing the deeper parts of that ballpark if they get all of one.I like Freddie here, he lofts those opposite field jobs; usually hits it pretty high.

BJ and Justin now 1-2 in the majors in strikeouts. Justin somehow manages to have an OPS .365 higher with one less strikeout and 4 more walks in only a few more plate appearances.

Think Justin is hitting the ball a little harder when he does hit it?

When you need a hit with the season on the line against a pitcher with good control who is difficult to homer off of, they become magnified. I don't want to jump on Justin too much, because as you said he's had a good year. But he's never going to be the guy until he cuts down on the strike outs.

I will take good hitters regardless if they strikeout or not. When Upton puts it in play there is a greater chance it goes for a hit than most other players in the league. Just because a player rarely strikes out doesn't make them a good hitter if they have weak contact. Not every team can have a player like Cabrera who doesn't strike out much and still hits for authority.

Do you honestly think the team will play the rest of the year they way they have played the past 2 games and 6 innings? Every team looks like **** and also the best team in baseball and different points in the season. This team is very talented and has won a lot of games the last few years. This season will be no different.

It's in them, but the two things I've mentioned have been there all season. We're where we are now because of a 17-7 start that was fueled by unbelievable starting pitching. And we've had a couple of spurts where we looked really good. Other than that, it's just been up and down.

Bottomline, like it or not this team is not very good. If any team in the East goes on a two week run and it's not us we are screwed.

Well, to be honest outside of the spurt last week at home against Milwaukee and Colorado, the Braves have looked like this a lot lately, so yeah, I'm ready for a little consistency and with 10 of the next 12 on the road it doesn't look good.

don't think we've looked anywhere's near the best team in baseball at any point. Run differential is almost 0. Starting pitching was the best in baseball for a while, but that's ancient history now.

Neither Upton has particularly good instincts in the outfield. I wish we'd put Heyward in CF.

3-0 Red Sox with Boston having runners on second and third. Hard to envision a realistic scenario that says this game isn't over.

We were at the start of the year. The point is everybody fears the worst when the team isn't playing well and thinks that's the way it will continue. We've seen this the past few seasons and always ended up in a good spot at the end of the year. I feel this year will be no different and we'll win 90+ games.

We also have a much less stellar bullpen. It's not horrible, but it's not nearly as good, and we won a ton of games last year thanks to a great bullpen. Just because it's a lot of the same guys as last year doesn't make it the same team as last year.

We've also wasted tons of chances. But Boston was way overdue, and we unfortunately have been the victims. But we have played Bad News Bears-type baseball for most of this series. Not covering bases, not finding flyballs, failing to hit with RISP. If you want to call that luck for Boston, then OK. Outside of a few dink hits by them, we've beat ourselves.
