Ervin Santana vs. Jacob Turner

Bravos
1. Heyward RF
2. BJ Upton CF
3. Freeman 1B
4. Justin Upton LF
5. Johnson 3B
6. Simmons SS
7. La Stella 2B
8. Laird C
9. Santana P

Fishsticks
1. Yelich LF
2. Dietrich 2B
3. Stanton RF
4. McGehee 3B
5. Jones 1B
6. Ozuna CF
7. Saltalamacchia C
8. Hechavarria SS
9. Turner P

There are a lot of questions leading up to the game today. Can the Braves spin a win into a wining streak? Can Ervin "I like the way it sounded" Santana rebound? Will Freddie Freeman ever get back on the rails in Miami, and will Chip Caray ever get off of them?

Everybody pop the top. Mix a Cuba libre. We're playing day baseball, getting ready to scale the fish.

Wake up, Mr. Caray. There is a package waiting for you at the guest-relations counter.

There is a massive influx of veteran Lairdership on the way.

He took La Stella out for dinner after his first game in Boston, which obviously had a huge effect on Tommy's ability to move around in the second game.

It was his subtle way of teaching the rookie about the dangers lurking on road trips at the major league level.

Tonight he will give Shae Simmons a similar indoctrination.

0 strikeouts and 2 walks in 14 plate appearances so far. That's his game and I don't think that is going to change too much from his minor league numbers. I expect a decrease in walks and an increase in K's but not much. What it's going to boil down to imo is how much good contact he can make at this level.

I just look at the players fangraphs page. It updates stats in real time.

http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4940&position=OF (http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4940&position=OF)

And WRC+ is a park adjusted and league adjusted stat for WOBA. Similar to what OPS+ is for OPS. And WOBA is the best stat we have to judge a players overall offensive game (minus steals) imo. And 100 is league average so if your at 100 you are a league average hitter. If your WRC+ is 110 then your 10% better than league average. For example Justin right now is at 167. He's been a monster for us.

He has no power but he seems to hit line drives a lot. We would be lucky if he SLGed 400+ but I think that OBP could be 350-370 which is exactly what this team needs. It would really help if he were a good baserunner as well. Not sure if he is at this point. nice to see him swipe a bag but that isn't even half of a good baserunner.

That's absurd, he is playing back protecting against a double that would tie the game, and if he dives for that ball and it gets by him the ballgame is tied. You can't put that on BJ, it's all on Carpenter for not being able to get anyone out and he never should have been in the game in the first place.

While I like LaStella's approach at the plate, he's going to have to show a lot more defensively before I can breathe a sigh of relief at second base. A good team has to be strong defensively at the four positions in the middle of the defense. We're currently average or below at three of the four.

Not a personal attack, just an observation.

Dude shush it, you effed up calling BJ out on that play, that play only. He is an average CF that's all but like people said in here it was not catchable for anyone except AJ in his heyday in a situation like that.

Now continue to rail on our players like you usually do. I am just making an observation of a poster who just hate Braves players because he has no woman to beat or a dog to kick to take his frustrations out on.

Other than maybe McCutchen, there arent many CF'ers that catch that.

Nice win, but I have a few issues with some of our bullpen.

Carpenter is scaring me, the more he throws his breaking stuff the more he gets in trouble.

ANd I will borrow this from another poster, what the Hale? I expect him to give Kimbrel a break and he just what, spaced out?

Shae Simmons can be lethal if he is the setup man throwing almost as hard as Kimbrel with the same movement on his fastball.

Interesting - seems odd though bc intentional walks are usually both valuable, and are attributed to the skill of the hitter (i.e. pitcher not wanting to face him)

Heyward being productive is the key. Freeman's always gonna be consistent and Upton is a beast. Also, BJ is no longer a black hole.

If TLS looks good for a couple weeks, I hope we can move him up to #1 or #2, giving us a chance to move Heward down a bit. My favorite lineup would be:

1. TLS
2. Heyward
3. JUpton
4. Freeman
5. Gattis
6. BJ
7. CJoh
8. Simmons

Sometimes attributed to the hitter but not always. I think today was an example of just wanting to setup the double play and a force at home. If I had any issue with woba as a stat this would be it. But it's too small of an issue to care about.

1. Heyward
2. TLS
3. JUP
4. Freeman
5. Gattis

7. Simba

but, I wouldn't mind:

1. TLS

So I was watching on an iPad in bright sun at Lil Guv's game this aft, and I saw the drop at second in the ninth inning. Said to myself, "Well, he's exactly what we needed offensively, but we can't put up with this **** on defense." I was actually thrilled to hear it was Pena who whiffed in the ninth.

3 of the 4 have been used in long relief before and its only an issue of we are in position to win the game. Plus we know Fredi loves to abuse Avilan so he will probably be available. Even more available if the marlins are getting blown out.

day off Monday and again Thrusday (weird) so bullpen should be normalized soon. Hale and Wood could both go multiple innings today if necessary. My biggest question is who'll get the ninth in a save situation.

Evoldi pitching so we'll probably be losing anyway. We never seem to hit that guy.
