really hoping Doumit contributes tonight. Fredi's dumb, yes, but he goes with the hot hand, so if Doumit hits better than BJ (not hard to do) and Justin can return he might finally pull the trigger on benching BJ.

Schafer just hasn't performed well enough to push BJ aside, maybe Doumit can.

I could defend Heyward fifth as long as it was the other Upton hitting second. TLS might actually be a better leadoff man than Heyward. And you can certainly defend Justin, Freddie and Gattis in 2,3,4.

"Might" but not proven. You don't put an elite base runner down in the 5 hole where his ability to score from 1st on a double is completely gone because of the garbage hitting behind him.

He was moved to the leadoff spot too soon imo. I would of gave him until the ASB and if he was still hitting well while walking and not striking out then go for it. Top of the order needs to be Heyward, Justin, Freeman, Gattis. Then after that do whatever.

His heat on the previous pitches is why he got away with a "hanger in the strike zone." Kimbrel was fortunate Werth didn't hammer it.

Well, it's not the UCL but he'll still be out for awhile. How long depends on the severity of the fracture, probably at least a couple months - likely longer.

No, he came back from that, although his fracture was a bad one. Zumaya tore his UCL in 2012 and needed Tommy John Surgery. After that he retired.

Curious as to why everyone is talking so bad about Harang yeah he has had a couple bad games but he deserves to keep his spot over Santana. Santana has been garbage and the day he walked I believe it was Napoli who was batting .167 with an 8 run lead and 2 outs I knew right then he has no idea what he is doing on the mound.

Hopefully the offense can pick it up. With Floyd out our pitching is going to get even worse and it's been on a downward slide for some time now. Allowing more runs then we have scored we are pretty lucky we have owned the Nats to this point or we would be facing a big deficit. Need to get BJ out of the 2 hole ASAP and go with La Stella, Justin, Freeman, Gattis, Heyward if they are determined to keep La Stella #1.

What sucks is their is likely no upgrades for the offense minus bench help which is a big need as well. The 3 laggards on offense BJ, Simmons, and CJ are all here for awhile. Not that you would replace Simmons anyways.

It was Nava. But the reason everyone is more worried about harang is sample size and "stuff". Look what each guy did last year. Harang was terrible, while santana was above average. We all knew it was a matter of time before Harang turned back into a pumpkin and I'm afraid that time is rapidly approaching. There is a reason santana got 14× the amount of money.

Is this Paul Byrd in the booth?

Paul Byrd. Interesting player. One of the few who came through Atlanta twice (fairly short stints both times). Looked at his career stats and didn't realize he won over 100 games in the big leagues and stuck around for 14 seasons. Braves just drafted his son in the 39th round of the June draft, but from all accounts, he's headed to LSU (Paul's alma mater).

What a lot of Braves' fan remember Byrd for is the fracas he got in with Eddie Perez during the 1999 season. Byrd hit Perez with a pitch at one point in the game and when Byrd came up to the plate later to hit, words were exchanged between he and Perez, and all of a sudden hell breaks loose. It had been a very p*ssy game and Smoltz had just been ejected for hitting a Phillies' hitter. One of the hilarious things about the fight is that Byrd kind of curled up inside the pile-up and Eddie thought Byrd was seriously injured. Turns out that Byrd had turned to prayer in the midst of the scrum. Just an interesting little tidbit from Braves' history.
