Patience has paid off with Andrew Waszak. The right-hander, drafted as a senior out of Michigan State in the 22nd round of the 2013 draft, had seven largely ugly appearances for Lynchburg and Rome earlier this season (0-0, 9.64, including four starts).
But Friday, starting for Danville, Waszak fired four near-perfect innings at Kingsport, striking out three with no walks and one hit batsman.
Call him a late bloomer. His first two years at MSU, he had a 5.91 ERA with 68 strikeouts in a hefty 108 innings. His last two seasons signaled his coming of age, however, as he had a 2.68 ERA and 107 strikeouts.
He's already proven himself at Danville: 3-5, 2.03, with 47 Ks in 53 innings. Hitters managed only a .175 average against him. A few more quality outings like Friday, and he'll be back on track.

OF Jose Martinez has been assigned to Lynchburg. The 6-7 veteran hit .285-6-39 for Mississippi last year. He was hitting .337 for Rockford in the Frontier League when signed.

Hunter continues to do great with Mississippi, I believe he could help us at the Major league level. He'd be a good replacement for Schafer IMO. He already has some MLB experience in the past with the Padres (Hunter went 1-4 with a walk in his only MLB game IIRC).
