The Rome Braves have a ways to go before they become a historically bad baseball team. Well past the halfway mark for 2014, they are 28-61, a mere .315 winning percentage.

Their futility breaks down thusly: 14-28 home, 14-33 road; 24-46 first half; 4-15 second half.

Rome has three six-game losing streaks and three five-game skids.

The team has a 5.25 ERA, only two shutouts, leads SAL in walks allowed.

According to the Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball, published by Baseball America, these are the all-time worst minor league teams:

1951 Granite Falls (WCL): 14-96 (.127)
1926 Reading (IL): 31-129 (.194)
1980 Rocky Mount (CL) 24-114 (.174)
1954 Jackson (Kitty) 1-44 (.023), includes 18 forfeits
1926 Columbus (AA) 39-125 (.238)
1975 Bellingham Dodgers (NW) 17-61 (.218)
1952 Waco (Big State) 29-118 (.197)
1949 Leavenworth Braves (WL) 25-112 (.182)
1988 Medicine Hat (Pioneer) 12-58 (.171) managed by GCL Braves skipper Rocket Wheeler

I know there was a snide post about JS, Jr., last week and how bad he's managing in Rome, but that pitching staff is simply miserable. How can you manage when you're down four or five after a couple of innings? The other thing is that team has blown a lot of big leads late. Just a horrid pitching staff (and by horrid I mean a two gallon gas can sitting six inches from a campfire).

About the only thing Lil' Suspenders can do down there is make sure the hitting prospects get their ABs.

Braxton Davidson starting to hit. A double, a single and a walk in 5 plate appearances today. Both hits line drives to the opposite field.

Kubitza is having a really good year in AA. He's got to be a better version of Chris Johnson, right?

Hard to say. He isn't young for his level. Has a BABIP over .400 this year. But he gets on base. Always has.

Anyone know why Shreve the LHP at Mississippi hasn't been promoted?

Nice to see you $1.75.

The guy doesn't get much buzz and I wonder how much he's ever going to hit, but Daniel Castro seems to keep moving up the line. Still only 21, he's off to a good start in Mississippi. Curious about his glove, but it may be telling that the Braves moved Peraza to 2B and has kept Castro at SS at the start of this season. Of course, that may have to do with Simmons holding down SS in Atlanta for the foreseeable future and the need to gauge Peraza at a position other than SS. If nothing else, Castro could project as a utility guy or trade chip. Middle IF seems to be the strength among position player groups right now.

He has, in a way. He's now their closer, doing that for the first time in his career and doing it quite well.
