Good. Good. Freeman definitely doesn't need a game off and BJ is perfect right where he is. Also so glad we sent Bethancourt down and kept Laird. Huge move. HUGE.

Freddie is on pace for 90 RBI in 162 games. He's hitting .301 with RISP. If we had guys getting on in front of him, we'd be much better off. Is he just not getting enough opportunities? Justin has also been bad with RISP, so that doesn't help. 34 Ks in 100 ABs with RISP.

FYI Yanks have 3 of their top scouts at tonight's game, closely watching Santana.

WFAN 660 has mentioned that Yanks have potential interest in Santana and rumblings that they may be the 3rd team in a potential blockbuster that would send Price to Atlanta, Santana to the Yanks, and a package of young players and prospects from the Braves and Yanks going to the Rays. Also mentioned that Minor would be in deal going to Tampa and Balfour to Atlanta.

Jason's power has been absent all season. It would be great if he were hitting .260 with a .350 OBP and .450 SLG. He's so capable of that. Where's his power gone?

I actually kind of wish we'd carry a 3rd catcher, so we could PH with Gattis here and slot someone else in back there instead of him.

edit: We could always use Doumit I guess, but I'd want someone not as incompetent defensively - even with a 4+ run lead.

Well, they went on and on about how having Doumit would allow them to occasionally pinch hit Gattis. Doumit is more than capable to hold his own back there with a 3 run lead.

I've always been a proponent of pinch hitting for your catcher late in games that are close, even with only 2 catchers. Worst case scenario you've got to throw a position player back there for a couple innings. Managers act like it's the worst thing in the world to have to use an emergency catcher, but it's really not.

Yeah, I mean I don't think I've ever seen that. Not to say I'm against it, but it doesn't seem to be something managers do often, if at all. I do think defense is important and a miscue or two can lead to momentum and a big inning. I think Bethancourt may legitimately be a more valuable player to us playing that role, filling in for Gattis 1-2 times a week or against AL teams. I don't see him ever hitting enough to be a regular.

Even in a year where he's shown no power, and this netting him a very average offensive year, he's still our best player.
