There is a 5 year period after TJ surgery where pitchers are generally healthier. Wood is still under that 5 year window. I would highly consider trading him soon after he exits that window.

That was Gosselin, CJ was brought in for TLS so Gosselin moved to second. Fredi will get credit for the move based on the play by CJ in the 9th. But CJ is so slow he makes plays routine for others look like web gems, at least when he actually shows more range than a statue. Plus his arm isn't really up to par for third, it is borderline at best. Gosselin is actually good at third, but he is also good defensively at second too.

Medlen, Beachy, and Venters defy the logic of being healthier.

The 5 year window only applies to first TJ sugery. Most pitchers are done after 2 TJ surgeries. Beachy I think it was questionable that he was ever really healthy after the first surgery. Medlen is the one that just came out of nowhere and defies all logic.

BTW, our best shot at a Wild Card spot now is to beat out either the Cardinals or Brewers. They both have an easy schedule minus 7 games head-to-head in Sept. Those games are where we'll need to catch and pass one of them. The Giants have a real cakewalk of a schedule left and we are three back in the loss column to them. So while we could possibly catch them, it is unlikely minus a really hot Sept. IMO.

To sum it up, if we just keep winning series from here on out, and even if we say lose one series. As long as we stay away from any more losing streaks, then will catch and likely pass either the Cardinals or Brewers.

Cards play pirates for 3 and then Brewers for 4 next week. It's great that it guarantees 1 will lose but it also guarantees one will win.

The Giants I agree I don't think we will catch. They have 2 games tomorrow. Maybe we get lucky and we win and they lose both but I doubt that will happen. Either way it's nice to have a real playoff race. The last time we had a real race it was only because of an epic collapse.

I didn't miss the point. You missed mine. The Nationals are going to be playing hard not to keep us out of the playoffs, but to wrap up the division. If they can manage to best us in September with our backs to the wall, I don't see why they'd be worried about us in a playoff series.

Actually, this just tells me you ignored and/or rejected my point. Which is fine aside from the manner you did so. I also disagree that it cannot be both as your comments suggest. In other words, while I agree they will be aiming to wrap up the division, it doesn't mean they're not hoping to knock us out of playoff contention in the process too.

Further, I am sure plenty of others would see why they'd be worried about us should we meet in the playoffs. The fact is one series regardless to how it goes isn't likely to erase from their memory how we've owned them for a good while now.

What manner? Sensitive much? And I did not miss/ignore your point at all.

Of course they're going to want to knock us out of contention, just like we would in the same situation. But it's not because they're scared of us. They know as well as we do that any team can beat another in a short series. It doesn't matter who the better team is or what their past successes are. Why worry?
