EY Jr to a minors deal

Braves signed OF Eric Young Jr. to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It's a good landing spot for Young, as he'll have a real chance to see ample playing time in left field as a potential platoon mate with Jonny Gomes. Young can certainly provide fantasy value with his wheels if he sees enough starts, as he's stolen 76 bases over the last two seasons. The problem, of course, is that he offers essentially nothing else.

I had basically decided against re-upping with MLBTV this season, but the prospect of watching an Eric Young/Jonny Gomes platoon every day is enough to sway the heart of even the most stalwart man.

I used up my allotment of "off on the wrong foot/stepping on toes" jokes the last time his name came up.

This team was in dire need of another marginal outfielder.

Good news because I thought we may have actually signed Huddy's ankle

Has Huddy's ankle had TJ surgery recently?

EY Jr is very good at stealing bases, but he isn't good at hitting and getting on base. He has been 4th outfielder quality at best in recent years. He is a good defender in left field so he's at least good defensively. Personally, I am hoping Cedric Hunter or someone else with more potential than EY Jr. gets the final outfield spot.

That said, I am fine with giving him a minor league deal and Spring Training invite.

Well we need to roster him no matter what. Really sick of him owning us while he wears a Mets uniform.

He hasn't really owned us, he hit only .216 with .577 OPS against us last season. The main damage he did was due to us walking him 7 times. He stole 8 bases against us last year but it was more due to us walking him more than him hitting his way on base.

That said, EY Jr's 8 steals against us was the most he had against any team (3 more than he had vs Miami).

I was going to go with an "Oh, snap!" one, but decided on this instead.

Yeah Im pulling for EY to make the team and platoon with Gomes. Plug him in the leadoff spot against RHP.

@jcrasnick
Eric Young Jr. gets a $1M base salary with $750K in easily attainable incentives if he makes #braves big-league roster.

@jcrasnick
The #Braves plan to use Young in LF, CF and at 2B. He could be a nice fit for a team that's short on outfielders

76, I'm mostly aligned with the tiers you posted above on the OF competition. Regarding contract status though, Almonte is out of options and I believe Perez has one option left. I read somewhere (can't find link now) that the Yankees asked for and received a 4th option year on Perez. For guys who's minor league service time includes a certain number or years in short-season leagues, they are eligible for a 4th option year. Given all of this, EY Jr may have a leg up on Cunningham and Perez for a 5th OF spot if he can prove his ability to play CF.

I was told Perez was out of options, but if that isn't the case then great because that means we can keep him without having him in the Majors. Further, I would agree that EY Jr. would probably have a leg up on Perez and Cunningham in that case. But one reason I say that is because EY Jr. has mostly hit his best in Spring Training including four straight years and counting of hitting around .300 or so with three straight ST putting up a much better OPS (.747-.748) than his usual regular season OPS numbers (.610-.645). Thanks mostly to a much better OBP in Spring Training (including a .375-.377 OBP last two ST). If he does that here that should be enough to make Fredi a fan.

I found this link (http://yankees.lhblogs.com/tag/eury-perez/) on Perez and the Yankees being granted a 4th option, so given this information I'll update and correct that post. Thanks!
