Um, Kennard is the real deal. Grayson Allen can ball (though he might go to the NBA too actually). They'll be fine. Won't be what they were, but they will still be good.

Sounds like UK might miss on all their big targets. Kind of a bummer. Maybe that will give Cal an excuse to pick up some guys to stick around and develop and just see what happens next year?

I really want Ingram, Brown, and/or Newman.

Read a good breakdown on Duke about next year:

Plumlee/Jefferson

Jeter- top recruit.
Obi- Rice transfer, probably just rotational depth
Jones
Allen
Kennard- I like him
Justin Robinson (David's son). probably redshirt

Guys they are after:

Ingram
Thornton-This guy might be Jones replaceme

Evan Daniels said Thornton may not reclassify.

Only other recruits they've offered are Maker and Ingram.

Ideally Thornton stays in 16, neither Ingram/Maker go there but that wont happen.

Next season for Duke is all about setting up for hopefully a monster 2017 recruiting class. I'd be surprised if any of their current commits are one and done so this season is all about building the foundation for the 2017 team. I'm hopeful that Ingram and Thornton join this year's class but we'll see. Perfect world would see those two plus adding in Murray.

Yeah, he was top 50. Georgetown has a history of guys like this that are just good athletes. Some learned how to shoot, some didn't.

Its wild that he can't shoot. Dude was an insane scorer in high school. Think he drop 9 3s in a game.

Akoy! Forgot you guys had him......yeah, he's a good athlete but his shot is ugly and most of the time it looks like it never has a chance. I don't know if he can fix it or not, he should be a good defender based on his length but he's horrible. Hopefully he turns it around, he wasn't a bad kid or anything.

Everybody is talking about it.

And one of the things I've noticed, while reading comments posted on various social media sites, is that some seem to think this isn't that big of a deal. Or, at least, they insist what allegedly happened at Louisville happens all over this country all of the time.

Simply put, that's an insane opinion to me.

I mean, do we all understand exactly what allegedly happened at Louisville?

If not, let me state it plainly.

A member of Rick Pitino's staff allegedly purchased dancers and escorts, brought them to campus and provided them to players and recruits. That's what allegedly happened at Louisville, and that's why this is way different than former Michigan star Jalen Rose having sex on a recruiting visit two decades ago. I'm not sure why this is difficult for some to grasp.

Yes, recruits often have sex on visits -- sometimes even with dancers.

I've heard stories.

But I've never heard a story about a staff member providing prostitutes for players and recruits, and that's because, I think, this really isn't a common thing. So let's stop acting like a recruit having sex on a visit is the same thing as a staff member buying prostitutes for a recruit during a visit. Because it's not the same thing as much as it's an an apples-to-oranges comparison that totally misses the point of this entire scandal.

.....

After I wrote the lead to this column I started second-guessing myself a little and wondering if I was just being naive in stating that what allegedly happened at Louisville is rare, if not unprecedented. So I texted 10 different coaches -- head coaches and assistants at both the high-major and mid-major levels -- and asked them if they'd ever heard of anything like this.

I granted them anonymity, obviously.

I didn't ask for names or details.

I just wanted to know, in all their years of working in college basketball, if they'd ever even heard rumors about a staff member securing escorts for players and recruits.

To a man, they said ... "No."

To be clear, multiple coaches told me they've heard of assistants trying to facilitate female interaction for recruits through players or girls who are "around the program," and one coach told me he knows players "have used host money and other funds to pay for this type of entertainment." But nobody, not a single coach, said they'd ever heard of a staff member arranging anything like what Andre McGee allegedly arranged.

So I stand by what I wrote.

Yep, happens everywhere! /brule

Good point.

I'm sure this happens lots of places. Just like the following:
1. head basketball coach bangs a crazy old broad (not his wife) on a restaurant table while his assistant stands guard, then pays for her abortion, then marries her off to his assistant
2. they re-hire a former football coach who at his previous stop was banging a side-piece (not his wife) who he hired on staff, then lied about it
3. star basketball player and known knuckle-head finally gets kicked off the team after he rapes a couple girls

Yeah, this happens everywhere. Face it.. it's a culture at Louisville. No where else would this stuff happen repeatedly. It's just a nasty, gross program that is so infatuated with keeping up with Kentucky (which it never will) that it will compromise its moral standards for anything that gives them an edge.

Haven't posted much this year, but I'll be honest.. I was really worried about this Kentucky team for a while there. They had some bad, bad losses. And Skal is just not what he was supposed to be.. playing for a make-believe team his senior year in HS didn't do him any favors.

But they've really started to turn it around lately. Murray is playing within himself and consequently has become a premier scoring guard. And Tyler Ulis is amazing - I know not everyone will agree, but I would rather have him than any PG in the country. The problem is the big guys are still inconsistent and half of them are currently hurt.. but if we get even competent post play, I always like going to March with a guard-driven squad, especially because this year is wide open as any. Tomorrow against TAMU will be a tough test.

Yep. Cal is a snake, but his comments are spot on. Every single season the committee seems to be doing a worse job than the previous season. The criteria changes each season too. They make these potential match ups because they are games they want to see. Hence the second round game with Indiana. Just biased humans with agendas to see games they want.

They didn't deserve it for a number of reasons. One of them being they cheated and got caught. Boehiem was suspended for 8 games and the committee decided not to take those 8 games into consideration....how does that make sense? They also got a cupcake draw before facing UVA.

"before facing UVA" who they beat after being down 16 in the 2nd half.

Dayton earned a 7 seed, and 'Cuse handled them pretty easily.
Gonzaga is much better than an 11 seed, too IMO.
they certainly lucked out facing MTSU over MSU, but they have no control over who they play. and then they beat a 1 seed who are considered one of the better defensive teams in the country.

Syracuse is a well-rounded team and their defense is suffocating at times. it's really hard not to root for Gbinije.

Millwood1Hitter
03-28-2016, 10:23 AM
LOL, Syracuse is trash and will get absolutely whipped by the Tar Heels. That zone is going to get destroyed because it's weak along the baseline where the bigs of NC thrive, it's open in the middle and with the new found mid range game of Brice Johnson he will destroy it, and Carolina and Paige remain hot from outside the game will be over within 5 minutes. Plus the zone allows offensive rebounding where Carolina is at it's finest. And JB has saved the season for the Cuse by being able to comeback by speeding the game up with full court presses and traps, and if he does that against Carolina LOL, they'll be lucky to hang within 50.

Syracuse is garbage. No other way to look at it.

Carolina is cutting the nets down, no doubt about it, none of these teams can hang with them. They will win in decisive fashion. Let's face it, this is the most down year in like eternity for really no dominate or even great teams in the game.

And after 2 decades of cheating, they will get a mere slap on the wrist and the NCAA will be so mad about it that they will give some no name school the death penalty.

Trash, historically speaking.....YES. I give them credit, they had to do what they had to do, they've beaten and they've outplayed who they have had to play to make it to this point, to make it this far, but make no mistake about it they just are not that good. They didn't play anyone that was really good until they met Virginia, and they got lucky to pull that rabbit out of the hate (On Easter sunday no less). It's pretty well known that Tony Bennett's teams and style of play aren't made for March. They came up short once again.

The article backs it up by using overall ranking entering the tournament...that's not really "backing it up" statistically.
MTSU beat Michigan State. Gonzaga beat a 3 seed in Utah before running into Syracuse.

Dayton fell apart down the stretch. Lost to St Bonnies, St Joes (2), Rhode Island and were even taken to overtime against St. Louis. It was a joke they were the 7 seed.

Teams either get hot at the right time or have good draws all the time. Syracuse making the final four doesn't change that they shouldn't have been, it doesn't change anything. George Mason, VCU, LSU, etc weren't one of the top 40 teams in the NCAA when they made final four runs. Syracuse didn't even have an over .500 record vs. top 150 RPI teams.

5-6 vs. top 50
3-4 vs. 51-100
1-2 vs. 101-150
10-1 vs 150+ (losing by 12 to St. Johns)

UNC needs to get the SMU treatment, the death penalty. What they did and instituted was much worse than what SMU took part in. Nearly 2 decades of a academic sham, all in order for the glory of their athletic departments, specifically men's basketball and a smaller extent football. What's pathetic is that UNC is a good academic institution, obviously not on the level of an Ivy type school or small private school, but they put that entire reputation on the line, for the sake of the athletic department, at the expense of it's student body. And for them to boost about it, deny it, and blindly turn their eyes on the magnitude of what has gone on is absolutely sickening. And why this hasn't gotten more coverage is beyond incomprehensible.

Warning for the NCAA, if the appropriate measures aren't taken, and the decesion and penalty isn't severe and decisive, then you open yourself into a whole new ballgame in which the NCAA will cease to exist. All those other schools that have punished for much smaller infractions are watching intently and chomping their bit to seek and destroy.

But watch, UNC has institude their 4 corner stall ball offense in regard to working with the NCAA to delay punishment to buy time for this UNC team and for them to bask in the glory of a 2016 Final Four and Championship in a year of no dominant teams outside of them, all the while merely getting a slap on their wrist for all of their transgressions for 20 years of the biggest academic scandal in collegiate sports history. Worst case scenerio is Brice and Marcus Paige are gone obviously, while Jackson and Meeks declare for the draft and then, and only then, does UNC enforce a self-enforced ban for a season in which they know, they have no chance to compete.

How this is not getting more coverage is beyond belief. Oh wait, a good percentage of the media members that have influence went to UNC including ESPN's own head man John Skipper. Hey why cover decades of cheating when you can spend so much time flipping out about whether or not Grayson Allen tripped out of bed this morning or if Coach K said a curse word or Lebron James deleting someone from his Twitter account.

Excited about Alabama's future. Avery Johnson got two huge recruits yesterday.

Yeah, he's really doing some things down there. Some other big SEC recruits as well. Really hope the league picks it up in the next couple years. They have the coaching and the recruiting to do it.

Interesting Champion's Classic this year. Kentucky has a long ways to go but the early results are promising. I love our guards. The questions will be offensive production on the interior and shooting. For the former, Bam looks and plays like Dwight Howard, which means lots of athleticism but little finesse. He also is going to have trouble staying on the court because of foul trouble. Humphries is much better and has a soft touch, so I'm hoping he will chip in on that end as well. The shooting is more troubling, as Monk is not going to go 7-11 in most games. Hopefully Willis remembers how to rebound and defend so he can stay out on the court enough to make some shots. Otherwise, consistent outside shooting is going to be hard to come by, which is crucial for the college game.

Overall though I love the make-up of this team and the players are all exciting and seem to fit together well. I don't think it's Cal's best class, but it's up there in the next tier behind the AD-MKG group and the KAT-Lyes-Booker-Ulis group.

Duke is going to be filthy if they are ever healthy. Their problem is lead guard - Frank Jackson just doesn't seem to have it yet. They don't need somebody to be a hero, they just need consistency. Kentucky won the title with Marquis Teague basically being a steady hand and hitting a couple clutch shots, so it's not impossible.. but in March, guards are king.

I have more thoughts, but I don't know if anyone else still cares about college basketball around these parts so I'll stop there.

NCAA rewards cheaters.

Carolina should have been given the death penalty 1.5 years ago.

And then rewards them with a gift championship with an easy path and multiple bailouts by the refs.

It's questionable whether Carolina cleaned up their program today but one things for sure the 93,05,09 banners better come down.

And sad thing about it is it cost a great clean program like Gonzaga their moment.

But Carolina should have not been in the position.

And how Carolina fans, staff, and faculty can deny and justify what what on is astonishing and ignorant. Quite frankly it's disgusting. If that wasn't program I'd be ashamed and quit cheering.

The University of North Carolina is a fine academic institution and why a university like that can stand for that dishonesty and lack integrity for the benefit of the men's basketball program is unbelievable. Think of it this way, as a state funded public institution the university has spent over 18 million dollars in lawyer fees to defend their basketball program.

Then again their were a bunch of fake UNC fans in the student section last night.

So fitting for such a fake program that has no standards. I guess that indeed is the "Carolina Way."

And yet it continues to be the large elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss and talk about. Aw shucks Ole Roy is such a great guy and doesn't know anything. Everyone thinks the basketball program has been a victim when in fact the true victims are the student athletes that have no education to fall back on to make a living, the student body and graduates whose education and academic integrity has been compromised at the expense of athletics, the professional faculty whose credentials have to be questioned, and the taxpayers...and on the court all the teams that competed on the same court as the Tar Heels.

The University and the NCAA will do whatever it takes to protect St Deans skeletons in the closet.

Gonzaga earned their right to the championship game. Their opponent didn't. It's debatable whether the Zags would have beaten any other team that cleared their path from the other side of the bracket but as it is the fact remains...the NCAA is a joke and has no backbone for what they should stand for. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people.

Could you imagine if the roles were reversed and something like this happened to happen at Duke? ESPN would have to form another 24 hr channel just to follow it. But being its North Carolina and St. Deans legacy and good ol folksy Ole Roy no one seems to care. Ol Roy can talk in circles and deny everything and everyone believes him. They went through a 16, 8 or 9, 4, 2, 3, 1, nothing easy.

Far cry from Duke's two title runs which were easy as hell.

And the cheating scandal is brought up all the time, you must be new to social media.

And the refs bailed them out against Arkansas.

I'm guessing this will only be the first of many high profile coaches losing their jobs because of the FBI's investigation.

Illinois got a commitment from 2018 Ayo Dosunmu, point guard out of the Chicago Public League and the highest rated CPL kid since Deon Thomas back in the early 90s. Underwood landed the 2017 Mr Basketball and has the 2018 favorite committed now. Things are turning around in Champaign!

Things aren’t turning around as quickly as I’d like. 0-7 to start the Big Ten, although 3 of those losses came in OT and a fourth on a buzzer beater. This team is missing the athletes needed to run Underwood’s system. 5th straight season missing the tournament - unacceptable at Illinois.

This new Selection Show format is awful. Why they feel they need to change this is beyond me. They did it two years ago and were met with some pretty harsh feedback - it’s gonna be the same thing after this year’s version.

Great to see Bruce Weber doing well. By all accounts he's a good dude and I'm still of the belief that firing him at Illinois was the best choice (it was hiring John Groce as his replacement that was the problem).

Barring a run in the Big Ten tournament, it will be 6 years without a tournament appearance for the Illini. Rough stretch, but I'm feeling confident they've got the right coach going forward.

Duke is beatable because they aren't a good perimeter shooting team.

They are playing like Villanova did last season. Everyone talks about how they have to hit threes to win, but nobody mentions the great turnover defense Auburn plays.

Certainly not the Final Four most people anticipated but hard to argue these teams don’t deserve to be there. The games this past weekend were phenomenal and I’m guessing we will see more of that this weekend.
