I think the organization still has a soft spot for Kelly.

Dalyn
04-15-2015, 09:58 AM
Other than Gomes, Peterson has the highest OBP in the lineup. Fredi sure likes to **** on young guys at second. Must be a Cuban thing. No wonder all the middle infielders from over there defected.

You know you’re a team to be feared when Christian Bethancourt is your cleanup hitter.

This goes right along with all the old nugget of baseball wisdom that says that the best way to keep pressure off kid who is still leaning to hit is to put him in the cleanup spot.

Which Kelly reciprocates by being a soft spot in the organization.

Probably because he ends his last name in an 'S' and not a 'Z'.

Valid point. Braves had a history of being perfectionist on Germanic pronunciation and spelling. It's the biggest reason Langerhans isn't on the team anymore.

Even though we may lose a game or two this year, this is a very entertaining team that hustles and makes contact. It reflects very positively on Muk's veteran leadership and Hart's strategic vision.

Trying to win games in our 4-5 slot in the rotation is going to be a slog if Roger doesn't work some magic with Cahill.

Or if C-Mart 2.0 doesn't join the rotation.

I agree. If you want to build around a team that doesn't strikeout and puts the ball in play then that's fine. But if the guys you have in general just suck even if they do that then your offense is going to suck. Same thing if you go for the 'steroid approach' and ignore K's and just go with power. That works if you have good hitters and it won't work if your hitters suck. The approach that Wren wanted wasn't wrong. He just had the wrong players.

But he doesn't walk and historically doesn't have a good BABIP beause he pops up a lot and has weak contact. That's not going to get it done in the leadoff spot either.

Tough couple of days, but 6-3 is a solid start with this roster. I hope Stults and Cahill right the ship so they're not tempted to bring Wisler up before the Super Two cutoff.

Even with what I've seen so far from Stults and Cahill, I still don't think I'd jump in the time machine and keep Wandy over either of them. Perhaps I'll feel differently in a couple weeks. Given we're unlikely to contend, I think it's best to put a premium on durability in order to keep guys like Wisler and Folty at AAA.

Actually we have been getting a similar amount of singles the last few games they just haven't been clustered together like they were last week. This is just the reality of having weak offensive players.

I don't even think it's an indictment of the approach either. There are players who make contact and don't strike out and there are players who make hard contact and don't strikeout. We don't have many players who consistenly make hard contact.

I know times look tough, but let's not get derailed here.

This is going to be one of the all-time legendary managerial seasons any of us have ever seen. Fredi is going to lead us to a wild card birth and get rid of our first round woes.

Why shouldn't he be? He's got no excuse to lose now that the team has been purged of all of those lazy, shiftless outfielders.

Reality. It was gonna happen.

Heard Crazy Train on the radio today, and it made me miss Chipper even more, knowing how bad our lineup can be now.

Martin and Wisler or Folty will be in the rotation by May. Anybody think that maybe the Braves are doing to one of the young arms what the Cubs are doing with Bryant?
