I wouldn't go that far, Callaspo is very good at third compared to Chris Johnson out there. CJ hasn't even played regularly yet he has a -3 DRS at third. Callaspo had an even DRS at third before last night's missed catch, now he's -1. His track record at third is pretty good according to DRS, etc. Now Callaspo at second is another story, I don't like him there at all.

That said, I think KJ might be the best at third defensively on the team. He's also been good in LF so far too. I know he hasn't played third much for us but I liked him there in a small sample over last few seasons. So if he keeps hitting and gets on one of his crazy hot streaks. Then I'd start him at third some games to keep him in the line-up.

who would KJ replace if you played him at 3b vs RHP? Callapso or the peoples choice, Peterson? And doesn't it make more sense to just play him in left instead of EY?

I've enjoyed watching KJ play for us both at the plate and in the field this year. The guy still has something in the tank.

I was talking about playing KJ at third some games over Callaspo and CJ vs righties when he's hot. Further, EYJ would be on the bench and mostly used as a pinch runner and late defense if up to me.

Yea, I was surprised no one in the game thread seemed to catch it given how much Callaspo is disliked here. I am not saying I like Callaspo because his domestic violence history made me view him differently too. I just kind of expect folks to be looking for something with him, that's all.

I didn't see the slide until now but it didn't look dirty to me.

The irony of it is Yunel at times would hustle just as hard as Andrelton did in that play And probably do the same thing given the situation. So I don't think Yunel minded the hard but Clean slide.

Escobar didn't appear to be angry about the slide so I think it was more his teammates reaction.

I'd rather he do that than headfirst. Plus watching again Andrelton risked himself more than Escobar. It looked worse than it was because Escobar was crowding the base. But keep in mind if Andy puts his foot lower it collides with the base and possible hurts his ankle and if his leg gets jammed into the base it makes him pop-up and hit Yunel. At least he stayed down the entire time

If the Mets win the division it will be due to the Nats struggling and us rebuilding more than them being that good. The Phillies stinking and Miami not starting well is also a factor too. Just a bad division right now even if the Nats get it together.

I still think last years team had no shot. Look at who is doing well this year for the Braves. Markakis/AJ/Miller/Gomes. Are those guys brought in if the old guard is still here? I doubt it. Is there money to get those guys? Absolutely not.

Lets face it. Its early and it will most likely change but bbasically every single player that has been brought in this offseason has been a huge plus. Lets not act like we would have had this team plus Heyward/Upton/Gattis.

Edit: Cahil/Stults haven't been....yet.

Right plus the Mets lost Wheeler, Wright for a time, key bullpen arms. That might not kill them now but if we weren't rebuilding and if Nats and others not struggling so bad it would. In other words, they'd be more at least a year away as expected in that case.

They can't replace Wright (even though he hasn't been the same in a while) but the Mets have pitching for days and their replacement for Darnaud is another top catching prospects. Legitimately, the Mets are loaded and have much more help on the way.

My point is that being in a division with us rebuilding and Nats struggling big time, while Philly is tanking and Miami having issues, is why the Mets have a better shot now despite those losses.

The Mets are good.

Harvey, DeGrom is a legit 1-2.

And Colon, Gee, Niese is a solid 3-4-5 to fill out the rotation.

And the lineup is quite solid as well.

I still think the Nats get on a run eventually, too much talent not too.

But i was listening to the ESPN broadcast yesterday, they brought up an interesting point. Washington is already 8 back, not a huge gap.

But i think it was Mulder that said having Harvey and DeGrom will kill losing streaks.

I still agree with what the Braves did, and i'm not sure our record is that much better if we just kept the same team.

Dont have AJ, Gomes, Markakis, Miller, etc.

Rotation is probably a mess, without Miller.

Probably something like Julio, Wood, Martin, Hale, veteran stop gap.

My point is that being in a division with us rebuilding and Nats struggling big time, while Philly is tanking and Miami having issues, is why the Mets have a better shot now despite those losses.

I agree with your point. Things are really falling into place for them. As long as Harvey stays healthy I think the Mets are trending in the right direction though.

Flores is starting to look like a big league hitter (he's probably going have to move up SS at some point). Duda is a decent second-tier player and Campbell looks like he can play some. Lagares is our version of Simmons (whatever you get offensively is a bonus). Murphy can hit (isn't hitting now). It's an interesting line-up that can hurt you several ways, but admittedly could go really cold for an extended streak.

He's been good all year! He leads baseball in hard hit outs. If he had even average luck his average would be well over .300. He's been by far the most unlucky hitter in baseball.

He can (and will) be better.
IF Simmons can keep it up, or show significant improvement from last year (shouldn't be too hard)
IF we can keep getting timely production from KJ, Gomes, AJ
IF Jace can hit a little better
and
IF Julio can turn it around along with Wood,

We can play better than .500 ball.
