Our pitching gems seem to have been terrible.

At least Jenkins struck some folks out on his way of getting killed

Janas has been the nicest surprise so far.

Folty has been great. Wiser has been mostly good, save his last start. This was Jenkins' first bad start.

And Sanchez just turned 18.

Not to mention our positional prospects have mostly been very good. Ruiz is the only one who hasn't really shown anything yet. Mallex Smith, Peraza, Dustin Peterson, Albies have all been good to very good. Davidson hasn't been great but his plate discipline is there and he's shown some pop.

Janas has been the nicest surprise so far.

I watched part of the Carolina game and he impressed me in it. I was also impressed with Dustin Peterson, besides his two hits he killed a bullet to third that was hit so hard I thought it might go through the third baseman. It was just a hard out but that is how locked in he looked last night.

That said, Smith, Peterson and Peterson are quickly making the Justin Upton trade look better and better. Hopefully that continues and some of the other trades not looking good turn around in our favor too. It is still rather early so we'll see.

Peraza .271/.315/.306 - Thats not my idea of good.
Banuelos 4.43 ERA 20.1 IP 10 walks
Matt Wisler 6.75 ERA 20 IP 29 hits 1.70 WHIP
Kurcz 4.15 ERA 8.2 IP 7 walks

Ruiz .203/.288/.250
Jenkins 5.03 ERA
Hursch 8.50 ERA

Sims 8.59 ERA still in A ball.

Davidson .224/.375/.379
Albies .256/.307/.317
Grosser 4.15 ERA 13 walks 13 k's
Sanchez 8+ ERA

Peterson/Mallex have had good but not great starts. Folty has been great at AAA too. Outside of that the rest have been mediocre at best and a train wreck at worst. Dont say "its not about stats its about development" because if any of them were putting up ridiculously good stats everyone would be pointing at that as evidence of how great they were. Hopefully things get better.

Upon reflection, you didn't have that great a month either. But we still have hope for you.

Meanwhile I, for one, had a Good Upton-level April.

It isn't about stats for some guys, Sanchez chief among them. Hursh has been terrible, but he's a relief arm, so I don't really care what he does before we move him to the pen. And I've pretty much given up on Sims at this point. And Banuelos is a decent prospect, but I'm not counting on much from him long-term, so I'm not overly concerned with what he's doing right now in the minors.

So for me, it's mostly:

Peraza - no, not great numbers, but he started extremely slow and has come on really well. Average and OBP are ok and improving. Don't care about his slugging.
Folty - great
Wisler - strikeout/walk numbers are good. He's given up too many hits and the overall results aren't great but certainly not worried or anything. Prospects will always go through tough stretches.
Mallex Smith - great
Jenkins - pretty good overall, one bad start
Ruiz - bad
Peterson - great
Albies - has hit well for most of the year, numbers have come down over the last few games. He's 18.
Davidson - also 18. Needs to start hitting, but I like his isoOBP and isoSLG numbers for the most part. Just needs to get the average up.

No, I wouldn't say our farm system has killed it so far this year, but I also certainly wouldn't say it's disappointed. It's been less than a month. I've seen things I like from Folty, Wisler, Smith, Jenkins, Peterson, Albies, and Davidson.

You have given up on Sims who most thought was our #1 prospect this offseason and you dont think the farm system has disappointed? I was kind of expecting a hot start from a few of the prospects and we got a few good starts but no one among the hottest in the minors right now. Maybe my expectations were too high. I am not burying anyone over 1 month but I expect the results to improve.

Well I skipped spring training this year, still rounding into playing shape.
