I've been one of the few who loved the A. J. signing (and one of the serious few who said he wasn't nearly as bad a teammate as many thought because that was the rumor pushed by the Red Sox), but I'm personally about ready to see some more of Bethancourt. The time to find out if he's our "Catcher Of The Future" IS now - when we're not all that interested in the season's final W-L record. The Pitchers need to get used to throwing to him and having him call games because he's the only one of those two who might be here beyond 2015.

JMO, but A. J. was brought in to help tutor him and to give him a break when he needed days off. If someone wants to bitch about Fredi not playing Christian more I can definitely go along with that gripe. A. J.'s hot streak is over (and it was a lot of fun to watch), but it's about time to start figuring out whether Hart & Company need to be on the lookout for a full-time Catcher before moving into the new park.

Gotta be Fckn kidding me. Not you, but the pecker head manager. The dudes hit 52 HR in 10 seasons and has averaged about 4 the past 4 seasons. Only stupid Fckn managers make a lineup such as this.

Sounds like Billy Hamilton needs to work on his bunting. Mallex Smith has had games where he gets three bunt hits for Mississippi. Safe to say our speedy CFer Smith can bunt. :)

That said, we can't be walking Hamilton..

So when do we move Nick out of the leadoff spot? He's been horrible since moving there.

Speaking of someone who needs to show some power, I'd say that is more true with Nick than Peterson since Peterson plays middle infield and brings plus defense and stolen base ability. Nick so far is Aoki without the speed and stolen bases.

USMA76

I'll rain on the parade a bit.

- Fredi once again reminds me that he's a moron by refusing to use his better pitchers in a tie game on the road. Jim Johnson if we get the lead, Trevor Cahill if we're tied. Cahill is our worst pitcher, yet Fredi cannot get his head around the save stuff.

- Terrible baserunning by Markakis on the steal from Goss. Markakis has to take second there. If he does, we score a third run that inning

Having said all that, stringing together 3 hits against Chapman - and two of them from lefties - is no small task - well done

When our kids like the Lil Guvs of this community look back on the 2015 season, they'll go back to this game and reference the heroic efforts of Phil Gosselin in the top of the 9th and the genius decision to call a steal by Fredi that lead to the game winning run that catapulted the Braves to the NL East title that season. Legendary.

That's not a gimme there, though. If he steals along with Gosselin, they still have the option to throw to second there. Not necessarily likely, but they can do it. And if you go with a delayed steal, it's still a risk.

From Mark Bowman:

"Fredi confirmed that he challenged the plate blocking rule, so that both the potential infraction and tag would be reviewed."

Looks like I'll have to eat some crow and apologize to Fredi.

Sturg is one of my favorite posters on this board but becareful not to be niners ( I don't mean that as a knock on niners as I think he's a great poster for this board) To grump about Fredi for choosing one crappy reliever over another seems absurd. Also Markakis has to make sure he's got second base on that steal from Gosselin. The most important thing by far is that Gosselin has 3rd base with one out. Markakis at second means nothin relative to Gosselin safe at third base with one out.

Just an observation, but I remember about two weeks ago a lot of people were complaining about Freddie's lack of walks and patience. He's doing a pretty damn good job ever since.

Also, he's 12-24 over the last seven days with 5 doubles, one homer and 7 RBIs. Not bad.

I think the outlook on that deal looks solid from our perspective. People need to have faith in our pitching people. We don't usually acquire garbage when we go get it, and the strength of this staff is refining it and getting the most from their arms. Right up until and after their first and second TJ surgery that is.

I don't get the Gosselin hate that pervades this place every now and then, but he shouldn't be starting more games. When Chris Johnson is healthy, Fredi will probably have a cage match between Gosselin and Ciriaco with the loser leaving town. Those guys are nice guys to have on the end of the bench.

Basketball or cricket are the second most popular sports in the world. In the US its probably second for sure though with soccer making a push.
