You could extend that to top 6 hitters. Hit Simba ahead of BJ

Why oh why bat BJ after Uggla? Think Simmons ought be in between them. (Of course, BJ hitting in front of the pitcher means he'll see hardly any fast balls which may be the only pitch he can hit...)

This game is complete house money. I hope Wood just goes out there and throws strikes.

Its so odd for me to even say this but the Braves don't need to win tonight. Innings from Wood is more important than a win.

Same, especially with Washington losing.

Could live with a loss if it means resting Walden, Kimbrel and Avilan.

It won't happen but I'd only have Ayala, Varvaro, Downs available tonight.

I'd assume Carpenter is unavailable.

Lee, Stras, Gio and JZimm the next 4.

I am ok with a loss tonight if it happens but it would be nice to see Wood dominate. If we do lose tonight I hope the Braves go sweep the Nationals to put a period on this season. The quicker we eliminate them the faster we can begin concentrating and preparing for the post season. Still hope we can get a veteran pitcher via waiver claim. I am just not comfortable having so much inexperience in the playoffs. We are really going to miss Hudson. Hope he gets well soon so he can at least get back to tutor these young pitchers.

"Cliff Lee is 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in his last two starts with all nine of his runs allowed coming on seven homers. He gave up three longballs in a 5-0 loss to the New York Mets on July 21 and had to skip a scheduled start July 27 due to neck stiffness."

Wood. Stiffness. This bodes well.

Assuming Beachy builds on his most recent performance our playoff rotation will be good. Expereience is a nice plus but there is nobody that we are going to get on waivers that is even half as good as the pitchers in place.

Well, with the exception of Burnett and Waino, no one else in the NL playoffs has a ton of playoff experience either. We will just cross that bridge if we get there.

Like I said, main thing I'm hoping for tonight is that Wood can go 7-8 innings and keep our bullpen rested.

Also, we're throwing Minor and Teheran in that Nats series, and we'll be coming in red hot. We should be expecting to win that series too.

NIce match up tonight, our best lineup vs their best pitcher, a guy we've had not luck vs lately. And like the man says, house money. But we have a winning streak to protect!

ESPN pimping Freddie pretty hard today. That's a new idea for them. Surprised they didn't feature Ryan Howard.

So, it's not about the size of Wood, it's about his motion on the mound?

The problem with bringing at 100% every night is it can tire you out easily, and makes you more susceptible to injury.

Is he worse than Chipper, maybe not,but should that be our standard? Being not worse than a 40 year old with bad knees who wasn't spectacular when he was healthy and young. Martin Prado isn't a spectacular defensive 3B and he's way better than Johnson can dream of being.

Thinking, with Wood pitching for us and Lee for them, it's going to take more than 2 runs to win this one. Of course the last time I said that in a game thread, when we were at 2 or 3 runs, we didn't score the rest of the game and still won.

No he said Solid. And as I've stated before Minor league reports are hard to judge on. Johnson is a decent player, but he is terrible with the glove. Yes you're right it's impossible to fully judge how he is but when I watch him play I see a guy who doesn't read thet ball well off the bat, and that's a big flaw. I can't count the number of times I"ve seen him be flatfooted on a ball hit to him.

Is he worse than Chipper, maybe not,but should that be our standard? Being not worse than a 40 year old with bad knees who wasn't spectacular when he was healthy and young. Martin Prado isn't a spectacular defensive 3B and he's way better than Johnson can dream of being.

When people like you act like he's the worst defender in all of baseball and use those stupid advanced stats as your reasoning then yeah I think it's not a bad standard to use. Chipper wasn't a horrible defender either, he made a lot of good plays for us. If Johnson is as good as Chipper was defensively then I'm ok with that. I don't care what his UZJFKEIDKEIE is.

This is like football, right? Because there's not conclusive evidence to overturn that in my opinion. The ump, saying the ball would've landed in front of the fencing, would be guessing at best.

The Chosen One

Fair?

thethe

No he said Solid. And as I've stated before Minor league reports are hard to judge on. Johnson is a decent player, but he is terrible with the glove. Yes you're right it's impossible to fully judge how he is but when I watch him play I see a guy who doesn't read thet ball well off the bat, and that's a big flaw. I can't count the number of times I"ve seen him be flatfooted on a ball hit to him.

Problem is that you are going into your viewing with the preconceived notion that he is a bad defensive player so you will interpret most things as negatives. Just my opinion.

Agree to disagree my friend.

Ruiz's hit clearly bounced in front of the screen. B.J.'s was interfered with in the air and looked like it could, at the very least, bounce on the railing at the top of the screen. The call on the field was HR, there wasn't conclusive enough evidence in my opinion to overturn, but they did.

Chipper was a below average at best defender when his career came to a close. He did things well like charging choppers, but he had little range. But Chipper was a total HOF caliber amazing hitter, Chris Johnson isn't that level of hitter so he doesn't get the pass that Chipper did. Again, watch the best make plays. The thing is that the guys hand was over the barrier, but I'm pretty sure the ball would have been out if he hadn't touched it. His hand was several feet higher than the rail and the ball was not on a steep descent. I'm not sure what the rule is though in that situation.
