In a way, I like the pressure that's being put on Wisler to actually be a stopper after our stumbles these first two games. It seems that eighth-inning homer in Milwaukee might have been the most damaging moment of the season so far.

But Wisler seems to have that bulldog composure that you want atop your rotation (while Folty does not). He and Williams Perez have given me hope that a formidable rotation (supplementing Miller) is going to be a reality by next year, much less 2017.

Careful research by Fredi has revealed to him that Avilan's reverse splits are a product of a flukey BABIP against him by lefties. His FIP against lefties is 2.56 as opposed to a FIP against righties of 4.08.

You're crazy, Simmons is the best defender in baseball. Who will play SS until Albies is ready. He's hitting in the worst spot in the lineup and I feel like he is exactly what Hart wants on our team. Can his hitting improve? Of course it can, but it would be foolish to trade him.

Return to play after an acute Achilles tendon rupture may take 6-9 months in an active, healthy young athlete. Of course, as with other serious sports related injuries, recovery may take longer, and there is no guarantee that performance will recover to the pre-injury level despite aggressive and conscientious management and rehabilitation.

So I head to work with the game knotted up only to pull the game up on Yahoo app and see that CarGo won the game with a bloop single....

Come back in from break and just pull up Yahoo Sports in the office and see "Grilli ruptures Achilles"....you've got to be kidding me!!!!

Wainwright is a few years younger than Grilli and everybody's recovery isn't the same by no means...I wish him the best though in his surgery and rehab...and hate to say it, but no one is trading for him now and it could even be a career ender...I don't think I'm saying anything that anyone doesn't know though...the question is I guess is do you stick with him through the surgery and rehab or just cut him loose...

Also, who's next up to close? As much as I hate to say it and I'd rather see what he could do in the rotation but I think you give Folty every chance to be the closer for at least the rest of the year...maybe give "Baby Harang" a shot...I've got a feeling though that they are gonna hand it off to Johnson, but he should be traded if possible...this series to me is the nail in the coffin, imo we weren't really contenders anyway...please just get what you can out of the guys that are on the block...not Maybin though, we've got him at a good deal for a couple more years so why trade him...I read where post All-Star break that it's gonna be Teheran, ManBan, Wisler, Wood and Miller so that leaves Folty and Perez out of the rotation for now barring another freak injury

I hope so but I doubt his contract was insured. Also, part of the reason I didn't like him getting a multi-year deal was his age and with that more likely an injury or decline soon. That is also why I was in a hurry to trade him once we could. It's more likely we'll just be out what we owe him the rest of his contract if he cannot make it back sometime next year. Further, it is better to give 38 year old players like Grilli one year deals like Jim Johnson got IMO.

That said, Grilli seems like a decent fella and very good teammate so I wish him the best in trying to make it back.

I haven't seen anything from Folty suggesting he'd be any good closing for us. He wasn't good out of the bullpen last year and hasn't looked good with us starting or in relief overall. He can throw hard but rarely seems to know where it is going and has little to no consistency with his pitches. Plus the harder he throws the more straight his fastball seems to be. I am not impressed. Further, I'd expect Jim Johnson to step into the closer role till he's hopefully traded for a nice return at the deadline. Then after that maybe someone like Viz will get a shot. Vizcaino certainly has the stuff to be a closer and has been quite good so far returning to MLB after his suspension.

Yeah I agree that Johnson will be given every chance to be the closer and not saying he would blow games left and right but there's no telling how long Fredi would leave him in that role if that happens... JJ had made 16 consecutive scoreless appearances (16.2 IP) going back to June 9 I think which is VERY solid so of course they will give the ball to him..I still think Folty has a bright future and with his pitch repertoire he should probably start but I still think he'd be an option...Viz had slipped my mind, but he does have more experience in the bigs albeit by a little and he does have the stuff and has never really been slotted as a starter

Folty might have a bright future, he just doesn't look close to being ready for that right now. So while they might like him to close after JJ is gone I don't see that working out this year if it's tried.

BTW, Man-Ban is a bulldog so part of me wouldn't mind trying him as closer if they move him to the bullpen to limit his innings as expected. Though I'd probably try Viz there first if he keeps pitching so well.

Speaking of relievers, I'd like to see Carpenter used in a bigger role now. Maybe even get a shot at 8th inning duty on occasion. He has a very good slider and gets a lot of ground balls with his sinker. He may only throw it 88-90 mph but so far he looks pretty impressive.

Banuelos is a starter. Period.

Long-term I agree, but the Braves are said to be considering moving him to the bullpen soon due to his innings limit. Plus Perez will likely go back in the rotation after his two rehab starts in the minors.

Banuelos is nearing his innings limit, but they want him to make at least one more start.

Per Rotoworld:

Julio Teheran will start Atlanta's first game out of the All-Star break on Friday against the Cubs.
He'll be followed, in order, by Manny Banuelos, Shelby Miller, Matt Wisler and Alex Wood. Williams Perez will return in a few weeks, but Atlanta hasn't decided if he'll be a starter or head to the bullpen upon his activation. That's a story for a different day, so don't change the channel. The 24-year-old Teheran is 6-4 with a 4.56 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 86/39 K/BB ratio through 108 2/3 innings.

Yea, I saw the same from DOB and Bowman. I still expect Perez to re-join the rotation once his rehab is finished or at least soon after that.

I really hate this for Jason, he's pitched like a baller this season and deserved a much better fate. Baseball gods are predictably heartless.

On the bright side, assuming that Grilli's contract was insured, the Braves should now have a couple extra million to play with that might come in handy in the future.

I thought for sure he had the mind of a scientist, a cock like a python, and an arm like a ****ing thunderbolt.

Didn't think about the Achilles.

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I am off to today's game now. This team is fried and looking forward to 4 days off. I don't expect much.

They have already had four days off in a row.
