Couple doubles for Yepez and a home run and double for Acuna. Both 17-year olds skipping the DSL.

He's been awesome so far! Hope he keeps it up.

In his first three games, Soroka has gone 7 innings with 2 hits, zero walks and six strikeouts.

Both he and Allard are 17. The Braves have made a point of drafting players who are young for their draft class (both high school and college players) the past couple of years.

Btw Allard tweeted that he threw his first bullpen a couple days ago.

We may be able to throw out the GCL team's record. Always nice to win games, but win-or-lose, that might be the best set of prospects we've had in the GCL for quite a long time. Interesting to see how they all develop.

It really is an exciting group. Quite a few guys who are just 17 and most of them are more than holding their own. One of them we haven't mentioned is Alan Rangel, a right-handed pitcher from Mexico. Except for one bad outing, he's done quite well. I think you have to give a lot of credit to the international guys who have skipped the DSL and moved to a new country and made the adjustment so quickly while generally competing against guys a year or two older. It speaks highly to their talent.

When you add Baez, who is a year older than Acuna and Yepez but has skipped both the DSL and GCL, to the mix, it's a very interesting mix of international guys. Ventura, Michel, Concepcion, Contreras, and Olmos all look to be hitting in the DSL, so our Latin group looks a little stronger than it has in a bit.

Touki is balling. Only bummer is I can't see Ozzie today. Four(4) swinging strikeouts, sorry Five(5). That curveball just buckled Tomscha I think his name is.

6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 8 K. Has to continue working on his control, but this is the kind of start I love to see from him.

23 K and only 13 H allowed in 25.1 IP since being traded, though the 16 BB are obviously way too high. Still, if you include his last start before the trade, that's 31.1 IP, 14 H, 9 ER, 17 BB, 28 K. I'll take it.

Touki with an awesome game tonight. No hits thru 6 with 8 k's then Cordero comes in and blows it.

I'll take it. Touki ever get his delivery down to some semblance of consistency, he'll be untouchable. And I mean untouchable. You have to see him to see that curveball. WOW. I've not been that impressed by a curveball since...well, it's nice. If Allard's is anywhere close, we're going to have two studs in the rotation down the line. His changeup is very inconsistent. But it's just enough to keep the batter honest. One guy swung at a ball that was at least two feet outside simply because of Touki's arm motion and the offspeed pitch.

Most of these guys were signed after Gordon Blakeley came on board as a consultant as well. Yepez may be the only one that signed under the previous scouting staff, and Hart was already consulting at that time. Another one that needs to be mentioned is Isranel Wilson, a 17 year old OF that skipped the DSL as well. He has only 8 hits in 50 at bats, but 5 of them are for extra bases. He has a .200 ISOp right now.

One thing I like about international scouting is that a lot of these young players know how to put the bat on the ball. A guy like Ronald Acuna has had 72 at bats this year, and he's only struck out 9 times. That's not the case with all of them, but the latin players in particular tend to be aggressive early in the count.

Can't believe we were able to just buy a domestic prospect like Touki. What the heck was Arizona thinking?

Tony LaRussa and his philosophy that he doesn't wait on high school prospects to develop when he has low upside college guys that are ahead of them.

Sounds like a similar philosophy that we were just accustomed to!

I believe Yepez, Acuna, Rangel and Michel were signed early in the signing season by the ancien regime.

Baez, Ventura and Wilson were signed later after Blakeley came aboard. Baez was signed for 400K, I believe using the slot money acquired in the La Stella trade. The new front office did well finding those three considering they were picking at the leftovers.

Can't believe we were able to just buy a domestic prospect like Touki. What the heck was Arizona thinking? I can tell you that it's still being talked about. Some guy: I don't know if he was affiliated with a FO or not, but we were talking at the game and he said he heard that the Braves/D-backs set a dangerous precedent. I told him that if a club is dumb enough to sell off a prospect like Touki, the ridicule doesn't reside with the receiving team, but the team that completed the deal. We both agreed that talking Touki down made Stewart/LaRussa look totally clueless.

Unfortunately though his fastball velocity is only in the mid 80's.

Weso...you killing it tonight. You have had some happy sauce or something! And Dave Stewart said he hasn't touched mid-80's.

The Toussaint trade reminds me of the Smoltz trade. We got him while he was still in the minors from a clueless team. I think he said he didnt even have a pitching coach when he was with Detroit.

14 hits is dang impressive. Just reel in that control but he is pretty young.

I think Justin Ellison is a prospect that bears watching. Very, very athletic. He was timed from home to first at 3.69 seconds. He hit 20+ HRs at Western Oklahoma State.
