I don't like no Gattis vs Strasburg, his two run bomb off him earlier this year won us a game. I also don't like that Fredi is back to the Uggla and BJ Upton back-to-back line-ups.

You gotta go with the hot hand and Gattis hasn't hit a lick recently. Under .300 OBP now.

That homer was a little fluky.

And save Gattis late in the game off the bench if need be. Gattis has been struggling lately, this should be our top 8. BJ had a nice game last night, he's not gonna get in any rhythm sitting on the bench, BJ that is.

Last time he faced Stras, he didn't do much. Uggla ironically has decent numbers vs Stras, probably nothing tonight though.. I'd split up BJ/Uggla as well. But the 6-8 is what it is.

Gattis hit well his first 7 after the All-Star break, then slumped the last 9 or so games. Everyone slumps and he's sat the last few games. Besides, BJ hasn't had any success vs Strasburg.

Simmons has shown some life as of late in the 8th spot so I wouldn't move him. Hitting 8th is tough because of the pitcher on deck, and don't think that's the spot for BJ right now.

I'd certainly rather have McCann in there tonight than Gattis. Maybe tomorrow, vs Gonzalez, you should find a spot for Gattis.

No.

Mac should catch Julio everytime.

They seem to work well together. Mac loves to catch Julio when he pitches, his favorite to call games for on the staff he's said in fact.

It means that he has had success vs him (and won us a game), yes. Obviously, it's a small sample size (only 4 AB's total).

Everyone saying all this crap about CF wearing on Jason, where is there proof of this?

Simple logic.

He's 6-5/6-6, 240+

He cannot play CF full time. And with what BJ makes, he has to play. And is a pretty solid defender. How many players are his size that play CF full time, maybe Kemp?

Dalyn
08-05-2013, 03:38 PM
Gattis can't break a slump on the bench? Have you looked at his stats off the bench? That is where he is most valuable, by far. And, regardless, BJ is in a slump of his own. More important to get him out of it.

Actually, Heyward is probably better at any outfield position. BJ has a -35 DRS for his career in centerfield, including -3 DRS this year. He's nothing special out there even with his arm. Heyward would probably be on the plus side or at least even playing centerfield. Further, I don't buy your assertion that Heyward cannot continue to play centerfield. He should be fine to do so, just as Hamilton did for a while in Texas for example.

That said, I do agree that it's probably safer not to keep Heyward in center long term. But there's no real substance to arguing that he cannot play center semi-regularly now.

But for a whole season or 2-3 months, it would wear on him.

I don't buy that playing Heyward semi-regular in center would be a problem. If that's what you believe, we disagree. But I do understand and pretty much agree with the long term argument. Further, I know BJ is here to stay of course. Also, I am not saying sit BJ every game, but I certainly don't want to go back to Gattis playing as little as he did the weeks before his injury.

BJ is going to have a big August fellas. Trust 'ol Hula on this one.

I am looking forward to burying these buttwaste Nats for good this series. Just blow them right off the back of the WC train.

One big key is going to be running Strasburg's pitch count up early. Get into their pen, and wear it out. And by Wednesday, have that pen just drained.

More like the middle of it.

Clippard and Soriano is pretty solid.

After that, you can get to them a little bit.

Krol is impressive from the left side though.

I still say BJ turns it up also... I think he was pressing being on a new team, trying to impress and then he just got completely out of whack. I still say he ends up playing about how we originally thought he would when he signed the contract. Nothing spectacular like his first couple of years but nothing as terrible as we have seen thus far. I think fans will end up being a BJ fan when its all said and done. IMO, I hate people saying on other boards mentioning he's a cancer... from what I've seen he's been trying to work hard and he's been saying all the right things. He obviously knows he's been terrible and you can tell he feels terrible about it. He will snap out of this.

Yea, that was not Simmons' best swing — and it's a shame, too, because if he takes that pitch he'd have put himself in good position to work a walk and ensure that Minor wouldn't be leading off the next inning.
