Lots of major moves Monday and Tuesday.

Pitcher Andrew Russell is promoted to Gwinnett from Mississippi. Aussie Russell, who was one of 2012's free agent success stories, earned his return with a rock-solid stint in Double-A: 28 games, 4-1 record, two saves, 2.27 ERA. He worekd 16 games at Gwinnett before being bumped down.

Taking his place in Pearl is Shae Simmons. The former SEMO ace skipped a level in moving jup from Rome after being a midseason all-star (1-1, 24 saves, only one blown save).

Lynchburg has received a shortrstop on loan frrom the Mexican League. Daniel Castro, 20, was hitting 8-38-.312 in 80 games for Saltillo. Also 6-6 in stolen bases, all of these totals mark career highs. A Sonora native, he was part of the Braves' DSL team in 2010-11.

The Braves' two biggest "names" in the Gulf Coast League, outfieler Victor Reyes and pitcher Andy Otero, have been moved up to Danville; Hector Garcia and second-round pick Carlos Salazar were moved from Danville to the GCL.

Pitcher Jordany Santana (3-2, 4.66) was moved from the DSL Braves to the GCL Braves. Welcome to America!

All hail and bow down to Felix Falcon! How can a player begin his pro career 9-0 and have nobody writer about him? You see his stat line below; nothing fluky about winning a 2-1 game.

There is a player in the system with the last name Falcon? Nice.

Pastornicky played third tonight for the G-Braves. I just reviewed the game via MILB.com, well more so they plays at third to him. Pastornicky had three chances at third, a slow grounder that he handled no problem was the first one. Then a hard hit grounder later ate him up and went off his glove for an RBI hit. There were no replays and the angle wasn't great, so hard to say how at fault he was on it. Though it was ruled a hit. The third chance was a soft liner over third that he made a nice play on catching it running towards the line and left field. That play saved a run with runners on first and third with two outs.

BTW, I would hope we'd be calling Pastornicky back up soon. The only back-up player that can play second, short and third currently on the team is Janish. I don't see why we have both Constanza and Cunningham on the team along with Joey T. We have too many outfielders with BJ back and Laird on the DL. I guess the only hold up is to get Pastornicky some games at third.

Thanks for the summary. About time they started giving him some experience at third.

I'm wondering if they're keeping PAstor down longer for PT issues. Basically wanting him to get fielding reps and keep his clock running pretty slow. Janish will almost certainly be gone after this year so I'm guess Pastor will have his shot to be our backup IF next year.

I'm starting to see Pastornicky's ceiling as Jamey Carroll-ish (which is kind of "ish" when you come to think of it). 3B is a different animal than 2B or SS. Bound to be adjustment issues, but if he learns to play it adequately, it is going to make him more valuable.

Nice to see Otero moving up after a couple years of recovery. I don't know that much about him other than he had a great stint in the DSL starting out and then had surgery. If I recall the scouting report I read, he's more of a finesse guy, but nothing wrong with that if you get people out.

If his shoulder is ok, Ramiro Pena will be our utility infielder next year.

Most of the guys who deserve promotions have received one. But there are a few more moves that I'd like to see.

John Cornely has been great at Lynchburg and deserves a promotion to AA.

It would be nice to see Victor Caratini and Mikey Reynolds get a few weeks in Rome.

Cody Livesay and Reed Harper have had fine seasons in the GCL and deserve to be bumped up to Danville.

Danville won't be making the playoffs and their season ends before Rome's (I think), so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Danville guys get a few ABs in Rome to end the season. I'm surprised Reynolds wasn't assigned there in the first place. He's too developed to be playing in short-season ball.

La Stella is another one who should be promoted.

At least to Gwinnett. I'd love to see him in person.
