Allard pitching today?

He last pitched on 8/21 and went 3 innings, after pitching 2 innings on 8/15. He started those last 2 games, but isn't starting today.

I won't begin to speculate about why he hasn't pitched in over a week, but I'm guessing it isn't a good thing.

It's at least possible they're trying to keep his innings down coming off his back injury and don't think he has much to prove in the GCL.

The bats came out again today for the GCL Braves in their 8-1 win over the GCL Astros.

* Johnathan Morales continues to stroke, going 3/4 with a double and an RBI.
* Kelvin Estevez has been on a tear since coming down from Danville and he stayed hot going 2/3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Estevez has 9 RBI in 12 games since joining the GCL Braves. Estevez was the Braves' second most notable signing during the 2012 international signing period behind the late Yeralf Torres.
*Bradley Keller was 2/4 with a double and one RBI.
*Angel Perez was 2/5.
*Collin Yelich was 1/4 with his first professional HR. Drove in 2 and walked once.
*Re-habbing Michael Kohn pitched the first inning and was followed by Gabino Avalos (3.2 IP), Jesus Heredia (2.1 IP), and Alan Rangel (2 IP). The Astros' run came off of Heredia. Braves' pitchers K'd 10 and walked 6.

I'm not concerned about Allard until we hear something. For all we know, he'll pitch tomorrow.

If Olivera keeps fielding at his current clip, Ruiz might be needed sooner than we thought

Ruiz and Riley are making what was once a weak point (3b) a strong spot. I'm really glad to see Ruiz turn it on and to see why we got excited about him when the trade went down.

I don't understand why Soroka didn't get his first W? He left when the Braves were up 2-1...and the final was 4-1.

I have to give you credit Hawk. You never wavered off the Sims bandwagon and it looks like he's starting to breakout.

I never doubted him at all, I have supported him since before he was drafted. I hope he gets a shot here and isn't traded before hand as I'm afraid.

Yep, that K/BB ratio is fantastic, particularly for such a young age. Great sign for his future.

The draft class and international signings this year has been fantastic. MLB struggles aside, it's refreshing going to minor league parks again and box score perusing.

Kid is very young even for a draftee , much less level.

The great thing is, outside of Morales, these young players are relatively young for the leagues they are playing in. I heard a baseball scout say one time that the level of play in the "Power Five" college conferences was equivalent to that of Low A, but the level of play of the teams outside of the "Power Five" was equivalent to the upper rookie leagues. Right now, we have some 17-18 year old players who are really playing well in the upper rookie leagues.

Some people have been down on it, mainly because I think the MLB season has been rough, but we are in fantastic position moving forward. Especially with our pick coming from the Marlins, our (potential and probable) top 5 pick and international pool.

Sims with another strong outing: 6.1IP, 2H, 0ER, 2BB, 5K.

I'm really impressed with the way he's pitched this year, especially since being promoted. He is proving me wrong and getting his prospect status back, that's for sure.

The K rate he's put up this year is a very encouraging sign.
