Poor kid was barely even alive (if he was) when 9/11 happened. He just wants to be a curious kid like everyone else, and because of his brown skin and name was accused of being a terrorist instead of a normal, curious kid. **** Irving Texas.

Way to stunt creativity, intelligence, and growth. This crap can mess a kid up not only legally but mentally. Being led out of school in handcuffs in front of classmates basically for having brown skin.

Yet a white rich kid kills people in a drunk driving accident and doesn't spend time in jail because "he wouldn't fair well in jail."

America in 2015.

I actually feel really, really bad for the kid.

Can we fire the principal, teacher and officers who arrested him for looking like idiots?

The officers were just following rank and file right? I find it hard for them to be punished for simply following protocol. That's the issue, not the cops.

I think that's easy for us to say in our position, but that's not the culture of that particular profession.

I blame the culture that discourages taking a stand. I'm not comfortable taking the position that those officers lacked common sense.

This isnt because he is brown or muslim, this kind of **** has been happening all across the nation by idiot school faculty that arent competent enough to enforce a zero tolerance policy.

http://www.copblock.org/140900/stupid-reasons-police-arrested-kids-school/

I dont fault the officers that much but what concerns me is that cops seem to do whatever school faculty ask of them. If a school official calls the police they should treat it like every other call and actually determine whether a crime has been committed and not just arrest someone because the teacher said they should.

This is a symptom of a larger problem which is the over criminalization of the American people as a whole and governments employees near total immunity to criminal and civil accountability. The school should not be sued for this, the teacher who had him arrested should be. The school has no money, they have my money and your money. Its like someone suing me and me paying them from my neighbors bank account. Same thing with cops, so what if you sue, its not their money. There is literally nothing you can do that a cop cant/wont arrest you for. Maybe you wont get charged but they can and will still hold you for 24 hours. When we give cops vague laws with no accountability for blatantly false arrests we get what we have today. Like I said when a local cop was killed recently I dont feel sorry for dead cops anymore. They are not here to help you or me, they are here to prosecute and punish you. Its literally to the point where police prosecute people for crimes committed against themselves. How long until they start arresting 16 year old boys for sexual assault for masturbating? Freedom is not being allowed to make what the gubment designates as "good" life choices.

Blame the engineering teacher. To the untrained eye, that looks like the classic "movie" bomb. When a Muslim kid is wielding it, I can see why people would get a little weird about it.

The frenzy should have been stopped by the engineering teacher though.

If ANY of you have ever taught in the public schools this will come as no surprise, more and more teachers in the public schools are just there for a paycheck, either because the good teachers have left to go to other jobs that actually allow them to teach instead of playing bouncer all day, or they've just gone into other career fields. Those good teachers who did stay and stick it out I have to utmost respect for, but I couldn't hack it, I was there for 6 years and that was enough for me. I have been at a local community college for the past 16+ years and it can be a pain in the butt from time to time but it's a great gig all in all. I wouldn't trade it for any other. With that said in the 6 years (plus I traveled a local high school to help out with their Spanish program for one year back in 2001-2002) I worked with a grand total of ONE really good administrator, the rest were fooking idiots who would literally do anything to keep the parents happy with them so they could keep their jobs. The local authorities should have handled this situation differently/better, but I am fine with them taking it as a threat (cause you just never know these days) but it shouldn't take that long to tell a clock from a timer based bomb, ie the missing explosives. I don't know exactly what all enforcement did but they have to take these things seriously as well, but also they should have recognized there was no threat in about 3 seconds after seeing the device.

I know I've mentioned this several times, but there are literally thousands of DUMASs in Texas who STILL literally believe that Obama is going to invade them any day now. Exactly what sort of logical response and/or professionalism do you expect from people who have thrown away their common sense and allowed a political party to literally do ALL of their thinking for them??

The crazy thing is, it seems everyone knew he didn't have a bomb but he was arrested because he brought something to school that could look like a bomb.

Ahmed Mohamed: Texas police knew he didn't have a bomb but arrested him anyway (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/ahmed-mohamed-texas-police-knew-he-didnt-have-a-bomb-but-arrested-him-anyway-10507254.html)

"But speaking to MSNBC, Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd revealed his officers had taken the student into custody despite knowing he presented no threat.

"The officers pretty quickly determined that they weren't investigating an explosive device," he said.

"What their investigation centered around is the law violation of bringing a device into a facility like that that is intended to create a level of alarm. In other words, a hoax bomb — something that is not really a bomb, but is designed and presented in a way that it creates people to be afraid.”"

I know you aren't. Bad choice of words.

But if they are "shake down artists", perhaps the whole thing was orchestrated from the start. And if so, the parents are the real geniuses here and they are indeed worthy of the term "artists". For what is more American than devising a way to scam money from "the system"?
