Over the last 30 Atlanta Teams the top 3 WAR in order are:
1995 Greg Maddux 9.6
1991 Tom Glavine 9.3
? ? 8.8

Without looking who and what year are #3?

I would guess Andruw.

Is this Fangraphs war? I'd guess JD Drew

I was going to say the same thing. His B-Ref WAR for 2004 is huge- unsurprising, considering his offensive performance and rather extraordinary speed and defense.

Also a possibility: Marcus Giles, 2003.

I think Drew is a good guess. I'll guess at Andrew Jones in 2003.

My guess as well. A one year rental, but perhaps worthwhile.

Just checked Maddux on FG- per Fangraphs never had a war of 9 so it must be Bref. I'll stick with JD.

Yes BRef.

Not JD

I didn't know so I looked it up. Pretty interesting. Just shows you never know in any given season.

Was either Simmons or HEyward?

Just looked it up- I'd never have guessed. Another interesting one per Bref. Our 2011 WAR leader was Eric O'Flaherty.

Lonnie Smith 1989

I was going to say Drew as well. He has to be pretty close. I'm going with Smoltzy.

No, it really is Lonnie Smith 1989

Yeah, I looked it up and realized it after you posted it. Replacement player must have sucked ass that year. He had a great year, but it seems like an anomaly nonetheless.

Mac must have had a huge WAR when the replacement player was Brayan Pena.

Ah, JD came in at 8.3 WAR in 2004, while Marcus put up 7.8 in 2003. Embarrassments!

Interestingly/amusingly, WAR says JD was not only the best player on the 2004 Braves but that he lapped the field, in no small part because Giles and Chipper missed a lot of time. Chipper was second on that team with 3.8 WAR.

The early 2000's Braves were incredibly frustrating every October, but they had some of my favorite players. Marcus Giles, Furcal, Estrada, DeRosa, Julio Franco, etc. A lot of players that aren't going to be remembered long term, but were a lot of fun to watch.

One of my very favorite moments as a baseball fan remains the standing ovation Giles received before his first at-bat in this game (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ATL/ATL200307300.shtml), when he was riding a streak of base hits in nine straight ABs.

Couldn't have been Fangraphs WAR because FG pitching WAR treats Glavine like hot garbage.

Half the posters here could probably play LF better than him, but Skates could flat out rake.
