Yes, they are. Once Allard shows up, unless Fried or Toussaint is promoted by then, they will have a rotation that has 4 1st round picks and Ricardo Sanchez.

Not happening. AJ thinks that since he's an old codger in there for "veteran leadership", he needs to personally lead the team to the #1 slot in the 2017 draft. If some of the other guys want to play well for a portion of the game, he's okay with that, but he'll take things into his own hands if necessary. Or more specifically, he'll make sure the ball doesn't go into his hands, if that's what it takes.

Riley 2-2 with a 2B for Rome.

The double was just a ground ball up the third base line. He smoked the single though, Acuna scored easily from second.

I'm blown away by Soroka. He looks really, really good.

Checking the box scores, Rome is off to a great start tonight.

Top three in their line up is Acuna, Morales and Riley and they all three have milti-hit games. So does Ellison and Didder too. Acuna also stole a base.

04-07-2016, 08:36 PM
Chacin went almost a full 8 innings, 7.2 scoreless for G-Braves tonight. Swanson just got his first extra base hit for Carolina, an RBI double making him 2-4 in a losing effort for Carolina. Albies is 0-2 so far in Mississippi (line out to CF, ground out). Mallex Smith just doubled to leadoff 9th for G-Braves giving them a shot at adding an insurance run. Smith has a triple and double tonight and scored the only run so far (make that 2 runs scored for Mallex as it's now 2-0 G-Braves in 9th).

Also, for any interested in Astudillo like me, he lined out his only AB and threw out a runner trying to steal second so far.

Only watched the first inning on Rome so far. Soroka's breaking ball is ridiculous. Ump is giving him the outside corner so not surprised he struck out 7. The hit he gave up in the first was bull****. Ellison made a turrible diving attempt that I think a lot of left fielders not the size of Ryan Klesko catch standing up. Only saw 1 swing from Acuna but first impression I like his swing. Definitely not a slap hitter.

Some really nice performances. I'm hoping Dustin Peterson can have a good season in Mississippi. That Rome squad is simply loaded. Outside of the top-tier guys, I'm curious to see how Alejandro Salazar and Ray-Patrick Didder do. Bladimir Matos was "badimir" in the GCL last season, but he must have something to jump Danville. He was signed with some of the money they got in the La Stella deal and he's a little older than most of the Latin American signings, so it will be interesting to see how he does.

The commentator in the Rome game said Allard should join Rome in about a month. I would guess they changed something in his delivery to try and prevent the injury from recurring and he needs more time to adjust to it in extended spring training.

It is nice to have so many prospects that can make an impact on the MLB team that you can even use that statement..

not very long ago, that statement would have read with a 'maybe we could' in it, because we were searching for pitching solutions.

Some of these guys are going to have to be relievers, may as well keep Winkler there since he looks like he's a good one.

Sims is one I think could thrive as a reliever. That fastball-breaking ball combo is lethal. I'm glad we keep starting him and certainly think he's got a shot to start, but I bet he'd be a really good reliever if we needed him there.

I actually think both those guys will probably have careers in the pen. Winkler's fate could rely on his splits. Often you see guys with funky arm angles from the right side have trouble with lefties. As for Gant, I just don't see his stuff being good enough going through the order multiple times but I think he'd be excellent for one inning.

I think Sims would be a dominant reliever but I'm nowhere near sending him to the pen. He's got a plus fastball, a plus curve, and a changeup that's a major league pitch when he's on. With Sims it's all about consistency. If he keeps his mechanics clean and repeats his delivery, he's a major league starter.
