It must be really difficult to play baseball this early in the morning after a night game. Oh, those businessmen specials!

Hope Povse can keep it up.

Its early, but I remember the Povse pick being chastized pretty hard on MLB network during the draft coverage. Glad to see him succeed to this point after a blip last year.

Anyone else miss hearing Skip talking about all the businessmen here with their 19 and 20-year-old daughters?

so much pitching depth.... nearly every day we have at least a couple guys who are interesting prospects on the bump.

Ha, I came to this thread to say the exact same thing. Amen.

2014 was a really odd draft, but there's some lift in it. I'm not sold on Davidson, but the Braves are being aggressive with him so there's probably something there. Curcio has hit alright and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in AA at some point this year if they start moving guys up. If Bradley Roney can ever find the strike zone consistently, I think he'll pitch in the big leagues. Dykstra has a shot. I also think Beech and Barker could develop. Fifteenth-rounder Caleb Dirks is in AA for the Dodgers after being moved last July. Other than that, I thought Demacio was drafting a basketball team with a frontline of Povse, Sobotka, and Fulenchek. Nice to see Povse getting it together.

Riley K'd in the first.. but 2 RBI double in the 3rd.. 2-1 Rome but threating still in the 3rd.

Fried with a wild 1st.. but easy 2nd.

**edit
Fried is fitting in with the Braves way.. Rome stakes him to a 3 -1 lead and next inning single/single/Homer to go down 4-3..

Povse is through 3.. gave up 1 solid hit and one dinker...also pitched around an error that allowed 2 men on and none out.. What I like most is 39 pitches through 3 and 31 are for strikes... go after them kid!!!!

Haven't seen him pitch since he was drafted, but you would think Povse would produce a mean downward plane to hitters

Ellison is another guy that has some buzz to him. Could be a useful find.

Povse may be something special. It's early, but man.

pitched a good game today.. not great.. but he didn't completely lose it.

Fried was a bit disappointing today. and Whalen has been good, but WAY too many walks.

Matt Custred needs to pick it up or it could be Custred's last stand.

he has been awful this year. I had him on my watch list this year as a late round steal.. he was lights out last year..

Dykstra is the sleeper from that draft.

Yeah, that was my feeling as well.

Kind of funny that Wren was judged as having a bad farm but a lot of the guys we're following closely we didn't acquire via trade are from his tenure.

Wren actually made some really good trades.. I never faulted solely Wren for our collapse. I hold the blame to John S./Bobby/and Wren... I have even read something that Wren really wanted to rebuild the farm in 2012, but was over ruled.. not sure if that is true.. but either way, our crappy state was not all on Wren!!!

Max Povse wasn't as sharp today. Had a reason. Rocket Wheeler said after the fans he pitched despite feeling ill.

Also some of the international signings from his tenure were pretty nice parting gifts: Albies, Acuna, Yepez.

Yep. Looks to me when the Heyward window opened in 2010 he was drafting for short term needs because we had an outstanding core in Freeman, McCann, Heyward, Minor, Medlen, Kimbrel, Venters. Kind of like when JS depleted the farm for Tex. But he has given some nice kids for Zeets to follow.

Opposite field, RBI double off the wall for Rio Ruiz in his first AB.

Wren was a mediocre GM. Not worth defending or grumping about. He's the Nick Markakis of GM's. He's technically worth the contract, but meh.

Wren was not great drafting

But he got fired bc everytime he spent significant money on a player outside braves country it was a total disaster. Then he was an all accounts a hole on top of a terrible fa buyer.

Well of course most of the guys in the system that we didn't acquire via trade are leftovers from the Wren era. But how many of the guys we're truly following does that include?

Judging solely from the stat line, it looks like Fried pitched ok. As long as these young guys are striking guys out and not walking a ton, I'm fine with it.

Touki and Sanchez are the obvious ones who aren't doing that right now, but everybody else seems to be pitching at least pretty well.
