Any word on if they are limiting Touki and his hammer curve? I remember seeing some notes on the fact they weren't letting him throw it all that much since it was so ML ready, focusing on his other stuff. Any truth to that this year?

IF that's true, then that makes complete sense. He has to have more than one pitch, but that would be killer to a guy that lives and dies on that.

Guy throws hard, and has a hammer curve as a teen. Makes sense to me, but I also haven't read that this year -I seemed to remember seeing that last year.

I think you're right about them taking his curve away last year. I could see them doing that again this year. He gets hit way too hard for a guy who has such a devastating curve. In the lower levels the hitters wouldn't know what to do with that pitch.

Which would allow him to rely on it too much and not develop the rest of his repertoire. I don't care how good a guy's breaking stuff is, if he can't throw his fastball for quality strikes, he is going to get tattooed at the big league level.

And on the flip side it would make a guy with just a good above average FB, and no other pitches really skew the stats toward BLAH.

If his game is on milbtv tonight maybe someone can watch to see if he is throwing the curve.

I understand taking his curve away at times, but he definitely did throw it some last year. The game I watched, he didn't throw it the first 3 innings and then busted it out in the 4th. I'm ok with doing that, but we shouldn't do it all the time. Sometimes a guy needs confidence more than anything.

Looks like Rome's game is being aired on milb.com...I'll try to check it out, but a lot of the time I don't get home until the 4th or 5 inning.

It's too early to think about a Ruiz promotion, but there's obviously reason to keep an eye on him.

At this point, there is reason to believe that Bowman is punking us.

I thought it was Arizona that took away his curve. I hadn't read anything about that being the case in Atlanta.

FWIW, I think we are at least a good year or two away before we should start focusing on results with Touki. If he was even close to being refined when he was drafted he would have been a no-doubt 1-1.

I'll try to check for you homie. Though I am more interested in watching Gant and Sims tonight so I'll be flipping back and forth.

BTW, I thought it was Arizona that took his curve away last year and that we let him throw it. I know I saw him throwing it with us and not with them.

I missed the top of the first for the Rome game but I am watching it now and will watch Touki in the second inning. He gave up two hits and a run in the first. Top of second is upcoming.

Touki just threw back-to-back curves in the second inning so yea he's throwing it.

Touki struggling again, not with walks (no walks) but they're having no trouble hitting him at all. Hard hit balls all of over the place, even on a number of the outs. Rome down 3-0 in the third. Touki has given up two doubles, a triple and homer so far.

It looks like Sims has been scratched from starting tonight for some reason in the Mississippi game. Thurman listed instead on line-up card.

Touchdown with the extra point...

I know Touki is super young, raw and working on stuff, but at what point do you start to get a little concerned that he is getting lit up so often. His career minor league ERA is north of 6 and getting shelled tonight.

It is a concern but we don't know if he's working on something at the risk of poor results. I'm not worried....but I am perplexed.

Ruiz with a homer. 2-run.

Decent. Also, he's moved up to batting 6th after starting the season 8th. If he gets up to 1250 OPS or so, I think they'll at least have some internal conversations about having him settle in at the 5th or 6th spot.

Yea, I noted Blair but as previously reported it could be him or Folty. Most think Blair however. Time will tell.

I would go with Weber personally but it seems like that won't happen.

Yep. He's either going to flip a switch or he's not. There won't be gradual improvements. He's either going to figure out his command and then fly through the system dominating, or he's never going to put it together. It could happen at any time, even 3 years from now.

Dont put too much stock in Touki this year. I think they are trying to get him to back off his fastball a little to get better command and thats not going so well. If he cant make the jump to High A next year and be around league average there then I will start to worry. Rome is where some our best development happens. Theres a reason the Braves like to keep a player at Rome for a full year.

As for Ruiz, I want to see him stay at AAA and mash for a while. We shouldnt be promoting players every time they have a hot streak.

Yeah, I have a feeling they're planning on being really patient with Touki and having him work on a lot of different things. He's so young.

The one time he did swing at the first pitch I believe he homered or almost did. Hell I'd take him on the team now. He was the real professional hitter, sorry Garrett. Also the dude took a walk like a champ. Immediately dropped his bat.

Every now and then he would ambush a pitcher who was trying to chuck a fastball over for an easy strike. It's about the only time he ever pulled the ball
