Rio Ruiz is 3-3 with a walk, just a homer shy of the cycle.

Think Garcia playing LF today is a sign Ruiz could be getting a shot soon?

Throwing

He also made a bad throw the last out his final game in Mississippi. But first baseman made a great a play jumping and coming back on the bag (according to ump, it was bang bang) for final out. Good thing too or tying run scores.

That said, I think he'll get that fixed and be okay. Defense slumps at times too.

No, Ruiz isn't ready. He's always been hot and cold, even his poor last season. He needs to show some consistency month-to-month for us to know this isn't just one of his good months. Great start for him though and I hope it continues. He looks to be in better shape this year and that has helped too IMO.

How the heck was Ruiz not the Gwinnett player of the month over Bonifacio? What was his final average for the month?

He hit .310 for the month, Boni hit .333 for the month. But Ruiz had the better OPS but I am not sure by how much as they've already updated through today.

Those were my choices, no one else's. Like you said, Ruiz has been hot and cold.

Oh okay gotcha, I didn't realize that was what he was talking about. I was just giving him the stats I had to help answer his question.

BTW, I liked that you gave Brandon Barker some love as he has been very good so far.

Good to see Kinman have two more scoreless innings today. He could be ready later this year if back on track. I really like him.

One reason for caution on Ruiz is that his BABIP is .429. That, combined with his K rate of over 27%, are not promising signs for his ability to keep this up. He could obviously see a dip and still be a productive player, but his numbers are almost certainly going to start coming down soon. I'd also prefer to wait until that happens to see how he responds before calling him up.

It was only last year he was really struggling. I'd let him play all year in AAA no matter what his numbers look like.

He started hitting at the end of last season and has kept it up starting this season. Hopefully he figured something out down the stretch last season

Agreed. As was pointed out elsewhere, Ruiz even last year had a few months where he did very good. He hit .310 last June, just like this April, and hit over .300 again in August of last year. His OPS was over .800 both of those months but if you look at his season totals from last year it's hard to believe. It's because he was so bad the other months. So for all we know this could just be June come early, I hope not but given his track record you have to consider that IMO and play it safe. Hopefully he proves he's turned a corner with a strong season. Time will tell. I do like that he looks to be in better shape this year and that likely explains why his defense is better.

Sorry Rico, I thought you were just publishing organizational selections. I thought Ruiz hit .375ish and they still chose Boni over him. I also guess my dislike for Boni and optimism for Ruiz got to me..lol.

No doubt. I'm just saying that even if he has figured something out, his current production is probably not sustainable.
