Well...
Would say "go get 'em Bill" if he wasn't such a doofus. Apologizing for him is like apologizing for Trump (sorry, The Don!!!).

I'm sure Bill is taking this well.

Wait...didn't he write that exact same article a few years ago after the Braves promptly removed the Chief Nocahama(sp?) logo from a special ST jersey in response to backlash?

The Telegraph’s sports editor claimed on Twitter that the piece was pulled because Shanks “had a better idea for a column.”
I'm absolutely certain this is not true.

I know the sports editor of The Telegraph a little bit. He's pretty progressive, so I can't imagine him being OK with it.

Yeah, I got banned for saying Bill's stance on the matter was ignorant. I wasn't calling anyone names either. Just participating in a discussion.
I don't mind calling him names now. He's a pompous toolbag.
Would YOU want to bring back a racially insensitive mascot for no reason at all?

I'd bring it back just to thumb my nose at over sensitive, PC culture.

I like the Chief.
Injuns, for all their history of losing wars, sure get butthurt about being revered for their (likely fictional) warrior skills and intimidation.
Seems like old pale-skins are doing them a favor by perpetuating the myth that they were fearsome and awesome.

I think it's more that caricatures—whether "positive" or "negative" in their gloss—are at best unhelpful, and at worst very hurtful, especially to populations with a long legacy of mistreatment and marginalization.

It made bigger waves than I thought. Even the radio guys in KY were taking a KY Derby break to discuss the issue.

How many more years before the Braves names gets the Redskins treatment?
The Telegraph’s sports editor claimed on Twitter that the piece was pulled because Shanks “had a better idea for a column.”
I'm absolutely certain this is not true.
I mean, when the bar is set at "make the Braves more racist," it might actually be the case.

There is too much for the public to cry, complain, and whine about right now. Give them a few years and this will be happening.
How many more years before the Braves names gets the Redskins treatment?
Not likely soon, being that "Redskins" is an actual racial slur.

"Braves" isn't really a racial slur, as far as I'm aware.
EDIT: I see Carp beat me to it.

People who don't have to follow Bill sure seem to find a lot of reasons to be offended by what he says or does. He's an opinionist, everyone knows it.
I'm convinced he purposely ran over half the posters dogs based on the steady stream of criticism he gets from people who don't have to listen to a word he says. Lol

He's an opinionist for sure. So why does he go around masquerading as a journalist?

Fair enough, I've been questioning Fox News followers on this point for years. :)
