I'm excited to see how Sims overcomes the adversity of his last start. He gave up several runs, but didn't look bad in the process. No walks, several Ks, just homers.

It was his first start in his home town so I imagine he was a little excited. But the fact that he had a rough game but still managed to K a batter an inning while not walking anyone is encouraging. I'm anxious to see him in Atlanta but I still want the team to take it easy with Sims. He's still very young and I don't want to his his fledgling command get crushed by rushing him.

I completely agree. I really like the guy and he has as high of an upside as anyone in our system. Give him time, let him work his pitches and pray he can be a TOR guy. I do think he will be a 3-4 guy no matter what.

It also hurt Sims line that no one was making plays on defense behind him, of course giving up the homers right after that makes your line look worse. Hopefully he gets better defense tonight.

Rojas, an outfielder, was released by the Pirates after hitting .154 through 12 games in Class AAA Indy.

They could have also signed Mel Rojas, Sr., to help out the bullpen.

Sims is off to a rough start tonight.

Sims just gave up two runs in first on some really cheap hits mixed in with a walk. The second hit was a slow roller through the hole and the two runs scored on a bloop pop fly with two outs.

Sims got them in order in the second ending it with a K. I really thought he was very unlucky in the first as the contact was weak. He almost got out of it but what I thought would just be a pop out ended up blooping in between second and CF. Hopefully he finishes strong tonight.

This is a good lineup Sims is facing, too. Buxton, Kepler, JR Murphy, Kennys Vargas, etc.

True, he just got through the third fine. But did have a two out walk, then K'd the next batter to end it.

Three two out hits and G-Braves tie 2-2. Garcia and that other Cuban and Lavarnway doubles 'em home. Ruiz pops out inning over.

I missed the last two innings, had company, Sims gave up a run in the 4th and had a scoreless 5th so 3 runs through 5 innings. 3-3 game in 6th.

Strong 6th by Sims, that's probably it for him, all told he pitched 6 innings and gave up three runs for a quality start. 4 H, 2 BB and 5 K's.

Believe it or not, Garcia actually made a fine running grab on a pop up to CF to end the sixth after Boni lost it in the lights.

I feel like Sims has been royally screwed defensively over his last two starts. I could be wrong, but it sounds like he has.

I didn't see the 4th so cannot speak to how that run came about, etc. But he simply had some bad luck in the first and otherwise pitched well tonight IMO. He got a quality start even with the bad luck in the first so nice finish. Good to see he didn't let it lead to a bad night.

Ruiz pops out inning over.

Looks like you were right about Ruiz's flakiness. The guy is back in suck mode.

He certainly seems to be slumping now, chasing some balls he hadn't been when he was hot. Kid has always been very streaky, I hope he's finally turned a corner and can keep his bad streaks to short term. Time will tell.

Morales is 2-3 with a double tonight catching for Rome and batting clean-up. He also has a CS too.

I notice that Swanson's gone cold. Is he just running into bad luck?

Somewhat yes, maybe a mini-slump too but I doubt it lasts long as that kid seems special IMO.

I'd like to see him go up to Carolina soon. He's old enough to where he should handle it. That move would also let Morales and Herbert catch every day at separate levels.

Astudillo can move a lot better than AJP, little grounder between him and third and boy he popped out fast and made a great throw to first to nail him. If that is AJP there's no play at all, shoot player been at first before AJP is half way to that ball. I am liking this little Astudillo fella, his defense is better than the stats show, timely plays like that you don't see on the stats sometimes. Plus his pitchers seem to love him, good at getting them focused when off their games.

Swanson hit the ball hard again but right at the right fielder, good swing and hard hit. He will get some to fall soon I expect.

Swanson just called out on a 3-2 pitch that was clearly outside, he was on the way to first and shook his head no way that was a strike as he walked off. He was right. BS call.

With guys like Swanson it's not uncommon to see them with better strike zone judgment than minor league umps.
