SWANSON SNAPS COLD SPELL

Four hitless games is a minor slump for most players. It just seems like something more when it happens to Dansby Swanson. MLB.com's No. 6 overall prospect snapped out of his funk with three hits, including an RBI triple, as Double-A Mississippi blanked visiting Mobile, 5-0, on Tuesday night. After beginning his Southern League stint with nine hits in 20 at-bats for the M-Braves, Swanson was hitless in his last 13 at-bats before singling in his first plate appearance against the BayBears on Tuesday.

"That's just baseball," the Vanderbilt product said. "I mean, the last couple of games we played against Tennessee I got pitched really tough and the pitchers were just consistently making pitches. That's how baseball goes. I had a lot of good at-bats [on Monday night] and hit the ball hard, so I wasn't worried about the slump."

After slashing .333/.421/.526 in 21 games with Class A Advanced Carolina, the Braves' top prospect earned a promotion to Mississippi, where he hit safely in his first five games. Although he said he recognizes that the game is the same, he's noticed some considerable differences between the two levels.

"I guess the biggest thing is more consistency," Swanson said. "The bullpen arms are more consistent and the starters can throw more pitches for strikes. The defense and the positioning is much better, so getting hits can be trickier. Really, every time you move up a level, pretty much everything is better."

Newcomb has hit a rough spot in the 3rd though not all of it is really on him. He gave up 4 singles with two of them not getting out of the infield before the cleanup hitter launched one. After the HR he finished off the inning with a groundout.

It was definite bad luck with infield hits but Newcomb buckling for the HR is on him.

If memory serves, he gave up multiple IF hits in his previous two starts too.

It almost seems like they're coaching him to pitch to contact more to decrease walks. May take him some time to find the right middle-ground. I think he may need to take the "effectively wild" path to be successful.

Camargo on a hot streak. Wondering about his ceiling. With not wanting to start the clocks on Swanson and Albies, I've been wondering if this is the year for Camargo to get his big league debut (provided he is deemed ready) to figure out where he fits in the long term. If he did show something at the big league level, especially at SS, he could be a decent add-on in a trade. His arc hasn't been that much different than Nick Ahmed's, although Ahmed showed more power in the minors.

I'm just watching the minor league gameday, I'm not watching him in person, but it's still interesting to see Newcomb's command come and go. When his mechanics are good he's dominant. But he hits stretches where everything falls apart and he can't locate. He got two quick outs then walked two in a row (including the pitcher) then K's Michael Bourn to end the inning.

Newcomb's day is done. 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.

He didn't seem to pitch as bad as that line looks. Like I said, a couple of those hits were infield hits extending the inning to allow a 2 out 3 run HR. 5 of the hits came in the same inning. The BBs were back to back and didn't cause any trouble. Newcomb just lost his command for moment.

I doubt he had his A stuff today with only 3 Ks.

They kept him with the big club for quite a while in ST. He looked pretty good out there, from what I saw.

Wonder if Matos was assigned to Danville to be stretched out.
