Not so fast, everybody believes its just inflammation again, Dr. Andrews visit is hopefully to confirm that, because he's the only one that can read the MRI

No. I didn't. But he is a career .212 hitter with an OPS of .580 or so. Basically, he is Paul Janish with more speed and not as good defensively.

Overreact much? It's common for a pitcher to have these issues coming back from TJ. There's a good chance he's dealing with inflammation and just needs rest. Not saying there isn't a chance it could be something major because it's possible but this is common if it ends up being inflammation.

Reminds me of the vicious cycle of manager hate. I sure hope its inflammation. In the event that is it is, the front office should really consider shutting him down the rest of the season and just have him full strength and ready to go 2014.

We might be better off giving Cunningham a look in center soon if it keeps up. Whatever the case, I don't like starting both him and BJ at the same time. Gattis and Joey T should be playing in left, at least for most part.

It has been awhile since Gattis has done anything..

That can be said of all those that spent time of the DL not long ago. If Gattis is to get back on track he needs to play regularly. The two times a week stuff doesn't help matters (nor does being moved back and forth from catcher to outfield). He needs to just focus on left field and with regular play he should get back on track again. It's not like he's been striking out a ton like some of the others.

It's a shame that the oblique injury cost Gattis so much time this year. We haven't really had the chance to see if he can get comfortable and make adjustments. I'd like to see him out there for that reason alone.

Cardinals announcers are just brutal to listen to, btw. The game is about the players, not the umps. Throwing him out after the first at bat would still have been an overreaction, but it would have been more justified than three innings later because he was frustrated by making an out.

The ump overreacted, and may have effected the outcome of the game.... And then taunted the player for good measure.

He didn't throw a tantrum after strike 1 but I agree with the ejection. They should also eject players for yelling fck at the plate when they strike out. There's just no sense in that. Millionaire players should have to behave better than teenagers.

This team cannot win without Heyward. He's clearly been the MVP of this team. We've been able to survive and thrive when other players have gone down but the Braves have 61 wins in games Jason has started, That means we have only 16 wins in games he hasn't started.

That means we're 61-18 in games Jason has started and 18-32 in games where he wasn't.

My numbers may be off a little, but it's pretty damned staggering.

Cards players vs Braves players in terms of fWAR

C - Molina 4.9 Mac 2.7
1B - Craig 2.4 Freeman 3.1
2B - Carpenter 5.9 Uggla 0.9
3B - Freese 0.0 Johnson 2.4
SS - Kozma -0.2 Simmons 3.7
Lf - Holliday 2.5 Justin 3.1
CF - jay 1.2 Bossman -0.7
RF - Beltran 2.1 Heyward 2.9

So basically they have us at C, 2B, and CF. When we know that our CF is having far and away his worst season, considering the lowest fWAR he produced before this year was 2.1 a number Jay maynot best this year. So normal year they have us beat at 2B and C, maybe 3B since Freese in the past was much better and Johnson in the past was much worsee. But even with that tradeoff we are clearly a much better team in terms of position players without even considering age and cliffs and the sort.

The negativity by fans to this team is kinda sad.

This is where this team stands i nthe NL

Position player fWAR - 1
Pitching fWAR - 2
wRC+ Tied for 2
ERA- - 1
FIP- - 1
Starter ERA- - 5
Starter FIP- - tied 4
Reliever ERA- - 1
Reliever FIP- - 1

Basically we have an amazing pen, amazing defense, excellent offense and very good starting pitching. And that's with all the injuries we've sustained. Where would be with Venters, EOF, Hudson, Heyward, Mac, Gattis, and Schafer all not missing significant time? This has been a hell of a team and it's sad that the negative nancies will try to bring the team's production down. I'm bummed we lost Heyward, losing him means my dream of 100 wins is gone, but we are stil la great team and when Jason comes back for the playoffs (fingers crossed) no one will want to face us.

That's not really a fair way to compare the teams though. When you actually add up the WAR of each position player for each team then you get the Cards at 18.8 and the Braves at 18.1. So the Card's position players have an 18.8 WAR and the Braves are at 18.2. You can't discount the wide difference between Carpenter and Uggla for example. Only stating that the Card's have us beat at the 2nd base position fails to paint the entire picture of how much better the Cards are at that position than we are.

There's no argument here, if you're never going to give credit to the manager for anything, it's obvious you have a vendetta against him. The discussion was about every Cardinal player being better than the Braves. Which isn't the case. Also Cards have 8 players with over 100 games and 400 PA Braves are at 5 and 6. Maybe that has an effect on WAR since the Braves have missed a ton of PT from Mac, Heyward, and the freak suckage of Bossman.

And I agree with that. You think that Bossman will be a -0.7 WAR player every year? Only players we're at risk of regressing are Simmons (because of unbelievable defensive values though he should improve offensively to counter any potential slippage) and Johnson who'll fall some but not a ton. Uggla should be better than he has been this year, Bossman should be way better, and we have a ton of missed time from Jason and Mac who are arguably our 2 best players. Only top card I believe to miss a healthy chunk of time is Holliday.

He's not the first Braves starter to complain about that.

it's why I'm against the 100 + 5 pitch count he gives guys.

I think some guys stress their arm more because they know they'll get pulled, so they try and gas what they can left because they know Fredi won't let them go that much more over 100.

Protecting an arm is one thing, it can also backfire. These guys are competitors and they don't like being taken out when the game is on the line and most of htem don't want the bullpen to clean up their mess. If you're someone like Medlen and it's the 7th inning and you're at 91 pitches and a runner gets on, you're thinking you need to get out before Fredi forces you so you start over pitching and next thing you know you give up another run.
