This is the lineup right here that needs to get cooking. Once the playoffs near, plug Heyward into the leadoff spot and LET'S GO!!

K, pop-up, K vs K, K, pop-up

Not enough difference to fuss over.

Diesel

Gattis has gotten too impatient and is not making pitchers throw him fastballs in the strikezone. He has to make that adjustment mentally to allow his physical ability to show again.

Haha. BJ should be hitting eighth until he proves he can provide something. Uggla and Simmons have contributed.

Now we know why Walden wasn't used last night:

Jordan Walden will be unavailable for the next couple of games due to a minor leg issue.

It's not a serious concern for the Braves. Walden has a superb 2.47 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 52/13 K/BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings this season out of the Atlanta bullpen.

bravesnumberone

Probably Cunningham.

Right? Now to get Fredi to turn his attention away from Schafer. Remember how hard that was the first time? Ugh.

tvsportscaster
08-28-2013, 04:05 PM
Correct.

Because Gwinnett's season ends Sept. 2nd, Cunningham can rejoin the team after their season ends and doesn't have to stay the required 10 days. So he will be back with the big club Sept. 3

Dalyn
08-28-2013, 04:08 PM
"Maholm is 5-2 with a 1.93 ERA in seven home starts this season, allowing two earned runs or fewer in each outing."

How unlucky is it that he has had only 7 starts at home? If he can turn it around a bit (on the road), this makes me want to see him pitch a few games at home in the playoffs.

Nerfherders
08-28-2013, 04:59 PM
Yeah his home road splits are crazy, and it was especially weird when Fredi flipped him and Hudson right before the ASB, giving Maholm another road start.

My comment has nothing to do with BJ. It is about Schafer leading off, and it is in response to another comment about a similar issue. Plenty of people around here talk about these issues constantly, but you've decided to single me out for some reason. How about you just ignore what I have to say if it bothers you all that much?

I don't understand why people completely bailed on him so fast. We had some (who are still vocal about it) saying he was done after the first week of the season. He is signed for a long time. It is still way early to declare it the worst FA signing in history. Obviously, he is off to a horrendous start.

I don't understand why people completely bailed on him so fast. We had some (who are still vocal about it) saying he was done after the first week of the season. He is signed for a long time. It is still way early to declare it the worst FA signing in history. Obviously, he is off to a horrendous start.

How is Schafer out there? Looked safe.

Not bailing on him. Just stating he's done nothing this year and isn't going to. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for next year.

The one's who have hope for B.J are completely delusional. Look at this guys career numbers. He's only had an ops over .800 once in his career and that was 6 years ago at the age of 23. He had an OBP lower than .300 are you f'ing kidding me??? Who in the world did FW get reports from that would even remotely resembled giving a guy with his numbers the contract he got? Is it any wonder all-star players are getting 20+ mil. a year and have ruined baseball with these absurd contracts. Instead of a stop gap and going after a stud like Ellsbury were stuck with a dud.

I'm sorry but I will never get over this and trust me next year will not be any better for B.J. Please feel free to save this and bookmark it for next year. He is Uggla 2.0 but worse. Uggla was my scapegoat but now I don't even think about Dan as much. Now if he goes on a tear in the play-offs like he did for Tampa I may reconsider but that's about the only way.

Because the past is always an accurate indicator when clearly Schafer has matured and isn't nearly as awful as he was. No argument that BJ will be and should be starting longterm. Schafer has matured? Based on his spot starts? Doubt it. I knew CJ would come through the guy just had the look of determination. Also, his post game interview tells you why he is having such a good season. He said all he was doing was trying to hit a single and shorten up his swing and that's a sign of a good hitter. Oh and my guy Schafer was huge tonight driving in two runs and stealing 2(really3) bases and manufacturing our run in the 9th.

What is Schafer not doing in your eyes? He has had a rough go since coming back from the DL but Sunday he went 2-4 and tonight he goes 3-4. What had BJ done in the past month? What even makes you think he can turn it around? Schafer doesn't have to be what Heyward was. All he needs to do is get on base. He does that better then BJ for sure.

If BJ costs us 3 wins that could be the difference in the best record or not

Their is no benefit in starting BJ over Schafer the rest of the way. BJ will get starts vs some lefties but he isn't the everyday CFer anymore. Hasn't been for a while

Here it is in a nutshell: BJ is a problem (and huge investment) that is going to have to be dealt with. We can do it while we have a lock on the division. Or we can do it at the start of a new season. Seems pretty obvious what a smart franchise should do.

Post Schafer's career numbers please. I'm not happy we signed him but he is the best we got.

Oh you mean the three years where Schafer had less than 200 AB's and was constantly in BC's dog house because of his immaturity? Are you a new fan to the Braves or did you just not know this? How about how immature Schafer was and how he got into a home run frenzy and got away from his game. We know what B.J is and how do you know Schafer hasn't turned the corner? I think he's finally matured and becoming the player the Braves were so high on. Please don't even bring up the Houston stats because I'd be depressed if I had to play for Houston as well. Losing night in and night out will make anyone throw in the towel.

If Schafer was given 550-600 AB's I don't think it would be absurd to think he would hit .250-.270 with close to 50 XBH and an OBP .340-.350 and steal over 40 with ease. He will K 100-120 times but I think his defense may be better than Upton's but I'm sure some stat head will show some stats that say other wise but I don't go by that I go by what I see and BJ isn't on Schafer's level as far as range goes. Ok say I give BJ the benefit of the doubt and he hits what he did in 2011 which was .246/23/81 with an OBP of .330(which happened to be the highest since 2008) and he stole 36 bags but k'd 160 times. So would BJ's 2011 season be worth 13 million more than a guy who hits lead-off that would hit no worse than .250 with an OBP of .330+ and swipe well over 40 bases and manufacture runs at the top of the order? If you truly think that then I'm done discussing anything with you.

Schafer only played one year under Bobby.

Why do we always suck stealing bases....

Such a mystery. We destroy great baserunners.
