I would like Rome to sweep this double header and get back into the playoff picture. They are 4 games out.

Gwinnett has a good shot at making the playoffs with a .5 game lead.
Mississippi is all but in barring a major collapse
Carolina is void of talent and is an awful team
Rome has an outside shot
GCL is in 1st by 2 games
and Danville is 5.5 back and needs some serious help with 3 teams ahead of them.

Jasseel de la Cruz has been awesome since his promotion from the DSL to the GCL a few weeks back. Has only allowed 3 hits, 2 BB, and 2 HB in 13 IPs. Has struck out 13 and has yet to give up a run.

Nick Shumpert up to .216 after going .321 over his last 10 games. Still striking out too much, but nice to see him hitting the ball.

Thurman was released today. I guess we can call the Gattis trade a loss now.

Long overdue. Sad that the bus crash marked his career turning point.

Millwood's fake quote trolling was usually fairly quality stuff, and was mostly somewhat amusing and netted him lots of fish. His new shtick is definitely pretty pathetic though.

Strong start by Hellinger (probably his best of the year) and good games from Cruz and Pache in Danville.

Pache is killing at Danville. Dude you still 17 years old.

I imagine both Cruz and Pache will go to Rome next year. They've done well in their first season as pros but Rome will be their first real test. We'll have a much better idea of what we have in those two when they hit full-season ball.

I know nothing of pache. Can you tell me when we got em and what kind of ceiling he has?

He was in last year's international signing class. It was basically him and Cruz, and Pache is arguably more highly thought-of. He's got a big ceiling. Good athlete who could stick in CF but has enough power potential to possibly play in the corners. That's what I've read.

There were questions about his rawness (?) when he signed and questions about his hit tool, so seeing him start off so well is a great sign for him. He's not walking a ton, but his K rate is great, and if the power comes as it should, he could turn into quite the prospect.

wasn't there a scouting report on him that said he has strong, quick hands that gives him good bat speed even though he is not particularly big yet. But if he ever fills out he could develop real power potential.

could be right. I get them mixed up all the time.

Don't know, they both have good frames. Cruz is listed at 6'1", Pache at 6'2".

So I went scouting report hunting and saw that Minter is now our #30 prospect on MLB.

Good write up on him but what I found funny are his grades.

60 FB/ 55 Cutter/ 50 Slider/ 50 Control

45 overall <------

how do you give him a 45 when he has 2 50, a 55 and a 60 and has blown away every level, including AA in his first season of pro ball!!!!

Any prospect that low on that list will have a 45 FV, at best. I think they probably take quite a bit away from that for being a RP. I would imagine their best RP prospect is probably a 50 FV.

I guess you get penalized 10 for being a reliever.

yeah, I know.. They stuck a 45 because they have him at #30, RP and injury history... But it still doesn't add up.. not that it matters. His 50+ pitch selection plus control is all that matters.

According to this:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/scouting-explained-the-20-80-scouting-scale/

A 45 FV is a "Low Setup" or #5 starter. I would be pretty disappointed if Minter didn't end up as at least a "Low Closer, High Setup", which is a FV of 50.

I would have him safely in the Braves top 20 personally, easily ahead of guys like Whalen, Gant, Ellis, Seymour, Hebert, Davidson, Morris, and Bird, but behind guys like Acuna and Sims.
