With all of Swanson's great qualities people tend to overlook his speed.

I stopped overlooking that after his inside the park HR.

Kemp's weight program pays dividends already with a SB

Hey, a good game for hitters and another game lost in the standings for a better pick - I'll take it!

Don't like losing games bc of a costly Swanson error and Cabrera giving up late runs though

Down the stretch, I'd like to see Swanson clean up his defense. 5 errors in 18 games

When you think of it... Really not that bad for a .600 OPS SS

Dansby should not have been brought up. He's obviously not ready. He does look tired, but it's promising that he's hitting .303 and tired lol

If Swanson isnt ready the Cubs need to send Heywood to AAA. Swanson has a higher batting average than Heywood has OBP. Swanson's slugging % is almost the same as Heywood's OPS in the second half. Probably will finish with a much better batting WAR.

Cubs paid what north of 20 mil for Heyward?

Andruesque type of decline perhaps and now hitting is in his head or am I seeing too much into this?

I'd give him another year. He had a good track record of production but another year like this and it won't be good.

It's really difficult to understand what's happened with Heyward. I saw some indications over the years that he'd been "solved" to some extent, but then he'd have a stretch where he was absolutely golden making me reassess things. I always thought Freeman was the better pure hitter, but Heyward's tools are better. Heyward's LD% is the highest it's been in his career, so it's possible things aren't falling for him, but his power outage is what is really troubling. He's not pounding the ball into the ground like he did last year in St. Louis, but he's not seeing results. Interesting that Maddon is sitting him against LHP almost all the time.

Cubs have invested a ton in him, so he'll get every chance to work his way out of this. Still great on defense, so it's not like he's a totally lost cause.

It's entirely in his head. He's a smart guy but he listens to everybody and he's had about five different approaches in seven years. He needs one voice to bounce things off of and get feedback.

It's funny, no way should he have been as productive as he was in StL last year with a 1.8 GB/FB ratio, and now he's hitting the ball in the air, on a line and sucks. Very strange results.
