Comes on 4:30 this afternoon for the Mountain time zone on FOX. Discuss all the snubs and player you don't think deserve to be there. Additionally are the home run derby participants being shown as well?

Here are my guesses for which players represent those teams that don't deserve an All Star.

Jesse Crain for the Chi Sox.
Adam Lind for Toronto.
Jose Altuve for Houston.
Jose Fernandez for Miami.
Kevin Gregg for Chicago Cubbies
Evereth Cabrera for San Diego.

Here's the ESPN picks. The majority think the Braves should have Craig Kimbrel and Freddie Freeman there. David Schoenfield said Simmons should be the starter at SS. Buster Olney thinks Minor should be there.

Don't know who Schoenfield is, but he loses all credibility with his selection of NL SS.

Don't know who Schoenfield is, but he loses all credibility with his selection of NL SS.

He's the guy that writes most of the posts for the Sweetspot blog. He's a huge fan of Simmons because of his defense. He's always writing up posts about how great Simmons's defense is. I like his work because he's a big sabermetrics guy. He wrote the really good post explaining the struggles of the Braves outfield a week or so ago.

upton and harper shouldn't be there. hope the player behind harper takes over 3rd, though i doubt it.

for the cubs, they will probably pick jeff samardzija, it should be gregg

I don't recall a pitcher a starting pitcher with a losing record ever being selected to the ASG. One guy that might be it for the Cubs is Nate Schierholtz. He is having a solid season. I know OF is crowded though.

But just looking at Gregg's numbers it should be him. I didn't know he was having a year that good. Explains why the Braves are potentially interested.

They said no starters for the Pirates, Diamondbacks and Braves but plenty of representation from those 3 teams. We'll see.

Freddie Freeman should have been a lock. You can make a strong case for either Mike Minor or Julio Teheran.

Freeman up for the final vote but doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning it because of Puig.

Freeman is one of five who could get the final vote. Of course, so is Puig. And of course, Fox is already pushing Puig.

Thought Freeman should have been there. No way in hell he beats Puig out. Other than that, I'm OK with it. Kimbrel deserves it. Minor and Teheran have been very good for us, but there's a crap ton of good pitching in the league right now.

I agree that it's not a travesty or anything that Kimbrel is our only All-Star, but it still feels like we got majorly disrespected by only getting one player on the team.

1st place team has 1 player going to the All-Star game. Last place team has 3 players going to the All-Star game. Team with the 2nd worst record in the league has 2 players going to the All-Star game. Yeah. Seems legit.

It doesn't matter where the teams are in the standings. It's about the players. The only players on the Braves that are truly deserving are Kimbrel, Freeman, and maybe Gattis/McCann. Although, I do have to wonder how Justin Upton went from 3rd in votes in the outfield to nowhere on the roster in just a couple days.

That is correct but for many years the teams with the best records get the most players. Been that way for as long as I can remember. If those teams had such great players they would probably be in a better place in the standings and vise versa. It's why it's very rare to the an MVP or Cy Young winner on a bad team.

The teams with better records usually get the most players because they have the best players. The Braves are the exception to the rule this year.

Your better off in the regular season to have a lot of good players than a few great ones. The Braves have a very well balanced team. That leads to a lot of wins but not a lot of all star selections.

minor could've had a shot, but his last 4 starts cost him

he was 8-2 with a 2.44 ERA

then allowed 4,4,3,4...went 0-2 with 2 ND

A few players on the NL rosters is not deserving especially Harper. This is the reason why I don't watch the All Star game and it's festivities because it doesn't MEAN anything to me, the opposite of what Selig preaches. When you want home field you put the best players out there, not what the fans want.

bravesnumberone
07-07-2013, 04:49 PM
I'll still watch the game for tradition, but what's particularly irritating is that on the far off chance we actually make the World Series, our players potentially would have had no impact on who has home field advantage unless Kimbrel gets a save.
