This isn't a jinx thread, so save that please.

What worries you most about the team going into October baseball? Obvious answer is the offense or lack of. However pitching usually prevails in the post season and a lot of low scoring games occur. Our pitching should keep us in ball games for a playoff series. I am most worried about our manager and his constant miscues that mainly stem with the usage of the bullpen. One mistake small or big will lose you a playoff game and Fredi is full of them.

I'm worried about the inconsistent offense. We could go stone cold or red hot for a good handful of games. Let's hope we aren't limping in offensively.

The offense as well. I like our chances in any game we score 4-5 runs but I dont have much faith in seeing that very many times in the playoffs from this offense.

Don't get me wrong I am worried about the offense as well. I expect close games throughout a long playoff run. Close games means there is an onus on the manager to make the right call. That scares the hell out of me.

I'm worried about the first round matchup. I think if the team got a series win under their belt they will be fine. I jsut don't want St Louis in the first round.

Who you face in round one doesn't really matter. By the time the season has shaken out you're playing a 90+ win team most likely, most teams that get that high do it for a reason. Personally I have little fear of the Cards or anyone. If we play our game we can beat anyone. If Jason isn't back I don't expect to beat anyone. Our success and our failure is our own. No team in the NL is better than us when we're at 100% and doing our thing.

Looks like offense is going to be the worry factor heading into October.

Definitely.

My choice has also made his presence felt, naming Garcia #4 and all.

Hitting.

Not that worried about the pitching.

Have concerns about the offense in the playoffs, strikeouts, relying too much on the big fly, etc.

I am worried about pitching (when you consider we can only count on 2-3 runs). Medlen will likely have to win two for us to advance.

Very true. Any runs our pitchers give up are huge and they know it's real tough to win then.

This is probably true but gotta score to win anyway.

I mean take tonight for example. Minor gives up two runs in the first inning and he already knew he wasn't going to get a win tonight. Just a very sad offense.

As near as I can tell it is only the 6th inning. This is one of those games where I expect the Braves to break through. When you keep getting guys on, eventually they score.

Fair but can only get so many chances to score.

Never know if anyone will get on again for all we know.

Gattis being the anchor is destroying the lineup. Just another in a long line of horrible decisions. What does he have, a .285 OBP?

Our top four in OBP = Freeman, Johnson, Upton, and Heyward (in that order). The top four should be a combination of those guys. McCann, no surprise, is #5. Only BJ gets on base less than Gattis.

This is true.

Gattis should be 6th.

Top 5 should be JH, JUp, FF, Mac/CJ, then Gattis 6th.

I'm open to suggestions for who is a better alternative in the lineup than Gattis. It isn't the two pieces of crap who are getting paid the most money.

Just bat him sixth or seventh and hope for a three-run shot. That's the only way he is helping.

Good pitchers just carve us up with our swing at everything that might be a strike approach.

The scouting report on us must be that you don't have to throw strikes to get us to swing.

One more thought before signing off.

If we were still operating under the playoff rules from before last year, the Cardinals wouldn't be able to play the Reds/Pirates in the NLDS, which would have stuck them with the Dodgers.

So the new postseason format/rules could potentially screw us over two years in a row.

Thanks, Bud.

It's always fun to dream right? Kind of like one of those things where you'd wildly speculate on what you'd do if you won the mega millions. You don't play because you think you have a chance of winning, you just play for the what if fantasy. :cooter:

Amen to that. I'll catch flak for saying this regarding Wren's decision-making, but it's not me who signed approximately $30 million to warm the bench.

Yup get ready for 4 days of we have no chance against Kershaw and Greinke. I am not even sure why we should show up Thursday.

I have doubts if Jason Heyward even loves infrared baseball.
