Thus ended the daily thread for 2013.....
---------
The Mobile BayBears defeated the Mississippi Braves 15-0 at Hank Aaron Stadium Sunday evening to advance to the Southern League Championship Series. With the loss, the M-Braves conclude 2013 play. The BayBears will face the winner of Monday's contest between the Birmingham Barons and the Tennessee Smokies.

Mississippi (1-3) managed just four hits while Mobile (3-1) scored 15 runs on 16 hits. Dustin Martin and Mike Freeman led the BayBears with three hits each at the plate. Martin also drove in three runs and scored twice.

The BayBears took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Freeman singled and came in to score on a Martin double to center field, giving Mobile the early advantage.

Mobile scored nine runs on seven hits and three walks in the bottom of the third to jump out to a 10-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The M-Braves used three pitchers, allowing just one extra base hit in the frame.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ender Inciarte and Mike Freeman drew back-to-back walks. Martin followed with a RBI-double to right field, and Garrett Weber delivered a RBI-single to left field to make it a 12-0 game. Raywilly Gomez then grounded out to drive home Martin and extend Mobile's lead to 13-0.

Mobile added another run in the sixth. Nick Ahmed and Keon Broxton singled to put runners at the corners. Inciarte then grounded out, allowing Ahmed to score. Martin followed with another base hit to extend the BayBears lead to 15-0.

Bo Schultz (1-0) tossed six innings for the BayBears, limiting the M-Braves to just one hit and three walks. He struck out four batters. Aaron Northcraft (0-1) started for the M-Braves. He gave up six earned runs on five hits and two walks while fanning two batters in two and one-third innings pitched.

Tough way to end the season for the M-Braves, but congratulations are in order for staying the course and making the playoffs. Looks like there are some contributors on the Mississippi squad. LaStella doesn't have to go on the 40-man over the winter (not sure on Salcedo), but I think those two (along with Bethancourt, obviously) are going to be in the discussion in the near future. A lot of possible arms to add to the mix as well (Graham--hope he's okay, Hoyt, Jaime, Simmons, Schlosser, Harper). So congrats to Aaron Holbert and the team!

I would add Thomas and Northcraft to the list of players who have a good shot at making the big team in the next year or two.

I'd go Thomas over Northcraft, but one can never tell.

Rico, while you're at it, the Instructional League starts next Monday and maybe if you started a PayPal account, we could all pitch in and buy you gas and motel money (sorry, meals and booze would be on you) and you could go down and give us a first-hand report about what's going on down there. I'm only 3/4 facetious.

But thanks for a season full of great reports.

Instructs should be interesting this year. Heyward will be down there for a few days. Also I believe they are going to shift Caratini back to catcher or at least test him there.

The instructs used to be a really big deal. Baseball America used to publish rosters and provide extensive coverage. They actually used to keep stats as well.

Found this little nugget over at milb this morning. I'm not ruing the trade, but it's nice to see Drury doing well. Only caution is that he did repeat Low-A although the Midwest League is generally considered to be a cut above the SAL (for a reason that is beyond me).

Thanks for the work Rico. Really hope Tommy comes up. Cut Loe or Garcia and bring him up.

Thanks. Remember you wrote this when my alter-ego breaks out his Kickerstarter.com campaign for his (my) first novel.
