They're just giving Wood extra rest like they did with Teheran. I think that's a good thing, that might be wants been wrong with him the last couple of starts. The Maholm thing, though sounds more serious. It might make the post season decision easy.

It may also signal that Wren and Gonzalez are seriously considering employing Wood as a starter in the playoffs — something that would be even less surprising if Maholm is injured/out.

Here's the deal with Minor, if he is going to be the number 1 starter in the post-season then he needs to pitch like it. This is the type of pitcher he's going to matched up against in the post-season and he's failing miserably. He has to step up to the plate and pitch better than this against top pitchers and he needs to stop giving up freaking homeruns.

This. And, our hitters have got to wake the hell up because they're going to see good pitching. Sometimes you've gotta win 2-1 games. Sometimes you've gotta win 7-6 games.

Yeah at this point, Kris Medlen might have to be your Game 1 starter, he's your most dependable. But this team is in a world of hurt trying to score in the post season off of the Kershaw's and Greinke's, Wainwright's and the like.

Splits actually aren't that bad, but he's had 4 pretty awful starts out of 6 now, considering the opposition.

Medlen (only starting pitcher starting to get better in September, not worse)
Minor (looks rough lately)
Teheran (pitching more innings than ever before)
Wood (looks TERRIBLE lately)
Beachy (hurt)
Maholm (hurt)

YIKES! What a disaster. If it derails the season, Wren has no one but himself to blame. It was pretty obvious we needed some starting pitching before the season. Now we have Garcia and Loe starting games in September.

Depth. Wood wasn't on the radar for this season (we got lucky), so the only real depth we had was Gilmartin (who basically imploded during spring training). And we hadn't used less than eight starting pitchers since Maddux left (Garcia will make #9 this year). It was obvious.

What kind of depth were you expecting? This "depth" would have been kept in the minors - similar to Loe/Garcia/Hale, but you've already complained about them. Maybe Cristhian Martinez was part of that depth. How about the return of Beachy mid-season?

Loe I agree, but I don't understand all the hate on Freddy Garcia. The guy is still a serviceable pitcher. I don't want to trot him out for the playoffs, but he's okay.
Right now I'm more concerned about this offense than anything else. At this rate it doesn't who they run out there, if you can't score you can't win. And right now the offense is on hiatus.

Nothing we would've picked up would've been similar to Garcia/Loe. That is a joke. They should not be on a professional team, especially one headed for the playoffs.

You could definitely consider Beachy for July/August - Hudson, Maholm, Teheran, Minor, Medlen, Gilmartin, Beachy (second half). Gilmartin imploded. Wood exploded. They cancel each other out. Still leaves at least one starting pitcher needed if we aren't going to use less than eight for the first time in a decade. That's counting on a prospect. No major injuries. And someone coming off the DL. It was obvious. Had the discussion a million times before the season started. Wren ignored it then and basically ignored it at the deadline. He tried to correct his mistake by claiming Lohse, but that was a desperate move that came too late.

No one said anything about quality. We have Garcia and Loe starting for us. Serviceable would be a HUGE improvement. Hell, letting some of our prospects get some time in would be a much better option, even if they aren't quite ready.

From what I've gathered that may have been the start of it, but it was also Chris Johnson jawing to Jose that "you can't get that **** by me" in the 6th when Johnson flew out. Then obviously Jose admired his homer too much. I think Mac was calm about it just telling him he can't do that. Then CJ had to run in and it escalated.

Apparently Jose apologized to Mac and Minor after the game.

That kid is fun to watch tho.
