Per Rotoworld:

The Nationals and Braves have been told to stay away from Nationals Park in the wake of the shooting Monday morning at the nearby U.S. Navy Yard in downtown D.C.

The report from NBC News: "A gunman armed with a rifle and perhaps a handgun opened fire Monday inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard — killing at least four people and wounding at least six more, including a security guard and a city police officer, authorities said. SWAT officers swarmed the building, the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command. The shooter was believed to be wounded, a source told NBC News, and crews were combing the facility to make sure there were no other gunmen." Dan Haren is scheduled to pitch for Washington and Mike Minor is on tap for the Braves, but Nationals Park is just blocks from the U.S. Navy Yard and shares the same metro stop. The game could very well be postponed.

My dad's up there with a friend. They were planning on going to the game tonight.

Yeah, hard to see this game being played, especially if there are really 2 suspects still at large (which I doubt).

Any idea how close this is to the stadium?

It is very close. Same metro stop. I believe it about 2 blocks at most.

Davey Johnson says that they are at the park and thinks they are going to play, but he doesn't know.

According to local ABC affiiate, 8 local shools are still on lockdown. Three of those are in the vicinity of Nats Park.

Watching Fox News. Heard that someone involved in the investigation say "It's not over".

MLB has it postponed now, ESPN did not have it yet.

If a mod can update the title, please do so.

The Washington Nationals baseball team, whose stadium is near the Navy Yard, has postponed the game it was scheduled to play tonight against the visiting Atlanta Braves.

"All of us here in the Nationals organization were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that occurred this morning only a few blocks from Nationals Park. Our thoughts and prayers remain with our friends at the Navy Yard and those impacted by today's incident," the team said in a statement.

Kind of surprised it took that long to make the call in postponing the game. Just would not be right in playing the game when all that happened and still happening literally a couple of blocks away. In the end, it was the correct call. Prayers to the victims and families.

yes, cause waiting 12 hours to play the game really changes

if we aren't going to change anything about our culture after each and every single one of these mass shootings

then we shouldn't cancel baseball games over them either

What do you suggest should be changed in DC after this one?

No sense in adding to the chaos around that area by having the game.

THe parking lots were used as staging areas and there was the thought of a possible active shooter still on the loose while the cops were canvasing the neighborhood. How do you expect fans to get to the game?

unlike Atlanta

they have a train that stops right at the stadium

but obviously you didn't get the actual point of my post

The metro stop that is right at the stadium is the same metro stop for the Washington Navy Yard. yeah, let's play a baseball game while an active investigation is going on next door. (as well as a possible active shooter on the loose)

Playing the game would have been a nightmare not only logistically, but emotionally.

p.s. 12 hours later gave them time to clear the staging areas and determine there isn't an active shooter on the loose.
