Hurdle's ejection tonight was a carryover from yesterday. Freese took a called third strike (which honestly looked like a good call) and continued griping about it from the dugout. The ump tossed Freese for continuing to argue a ball/strike call; Hurdle took up the argument and was rightfully tossed. Bottom line is the Pirates are butthurt about good calls that haven't gone their way. Tonight's out of the baseline call was very obvious and I have no idea why Hurdle was whining. The Pirates need to get over it and quickly.

Simpson says he wishes there was a stat that told them how close to the plate a pitcher releases the ball. When told there is such a stat, they then proceed to make fun of it.

Is that the definition of an insufferable moron?

Yep- you don't drama like that very often in a season. Thing is- it should have never gone that far- JJ got screwed by the ump on a couple of pitches that were game winners and then Suzuki dropped two tip fouls that were also game winners. Those pitches, coupled with his running error make me think he is buying Neck and Big City a steak dinner in the near future after this one...

Flowers, Muk and Kemp still have unsustainably high BABIPs, but we can bank what they've given us so far. Even if the BABIP normalizes going forward, I think we're going to see that there is some genuine sustainable improvement for Flowers and Kemp. In the case of Flowers, a significantly lower strikeout rate. In the case of Kemp, the power looks real (helped by the ballpark) and I think his defense (probably also helped by the ballpark) will not be as big a negative as recent seasons. In the world I live in, less of a negative is a positive.

Think there has already been some regression for some, but looks like the expected improvement from Inciarte and Swanson is also coming to be.

The offense figures to be ok. Not great, but ok. And we have a good long sample to show that.

The real question is whether the starting pitching improves or not.

Starting pitching doesn't have to be great. One nice thing so far is the starters have been healthy. And we have a couple guys in AAA who can step in when the inevitable injury or two happens.
