From the AJC on yesterday's game:

Freeman was scheduled to sit out Sunday's contest and won't return to the suspended game, either, before playing in Monday's series finale. He said he'll use Sunday to work in the cage and take grounders pregame.

What types of projection models are there for SB from the minors to majors? Is it unreasonable to expect 30+ SBs from albies at a greater than 80% success rate?

Yes, much better hitting lefties throughout his career so far.

Going to be hard to keep Albies down rill the super 2 deadline next season. Might as well call him but before September 1st.

That's reasonable though it might not work out too well. But I hold out hope that Wisler can be a fifth starter.

Seems inevitable with this stone aged FO.

The organization will benefit from the massive boost in jersey sales though.

I get the service time argument, but something else to think about.

Swanson started with a hot streak last year, then struggled to adjust this year. He is now readjusting, figuring it out and improving a lot.

Do we want Albies adjustment time to come when we have a real shot at competing, or would it be a wise move to let him get the adjustment time sooner so he is past that when we are ready to compete?

I am not trying to predict which year that competitiveness window will actually open. We have already discussed that at length. It is not unusual for a rookie to have an adjust/adjust/readjust period early in their career. I am not sure that some MLB experience before we are actually counting on him for major contributions would be a bad thing.

We have never given wisler the chance he deserved. I hope they let him be the 5th starter next year.

Looking for signs of players coming of age, how about Lucas Herbert?

Still only 20, he hit .410 for June (25/61) with only nine strikeouts (one homer, 11 RBIs). He's up to .276 with a hot start to July as well. Remember, he was Allard's catcher in high school, deemed the best catch-and-throw guy in the draft. Apparently, he's going to have offensive skills as well.

I recall that he homered in his first game as a pro, then tore his meniscus in the second game and was out for the season. Maybe he's finding his form.

Here. Went to a wedding in Memphis.

Ventura decided to steal all the bases at one time instead of individually. Goes faster that way. (He actually had a walk then got picked off too. Ugh.)

Didn't take long. Sanders Commings has requested and has been granted his release.

With Danville: 6 games, 2 for 13, one double, one RBI, nine strikeouts.

What's the deal with demeritte? He's completely fell apart

He's a flawed guy. That's why we got him for what we did.

We are still hearing elite d and power. He'll have to see if he has the hit tool to be a MLB bench guy or better. He's still pretty young.

IIRC there are lots of guys making impacts this year and last as rookies at 24-26. Not everyone is a 19 y/o freak like some of our guys.

07-03-2017, 09:13 AM
Demeritte never had more than an outside shot to be a major league regular. I still think he could be a useful bench player. Maybe even the right-handed side of a platoon at third.

Yeah, judging by his body type, it doesn't exactly look like he takes great care of himself. Hopefully that'll change as he matures in the organization.

I'm worried about health and the third pitch. We've certainly had fatter pitchers be really good for a long time.

I feel like he's at worst going to out WAR mallex as a dominant bull pen guy. I know everyday player vs pen but I guess that tells you what I think of Mallex vs Gohara.

For me personally, it's not about his weight... it's about his injury history in general. He's actually supposedly in much better shape than when he was in Seattle. Everything I've heard is that he has nice feel for his changeup. At his age, he can easily translate that into a solid pitch.
