View Full Version : Time To Notice Juan Carlos (Encarnacion, that is)

I was asked last month about the Braves unusual signing date of Encarnacion (May 10, 2016), and I could find no real answer -- only that he signed for a paltry $10K. But since the 19-year-old is a very mature 6-3, 195 and is knocking the shiate out of the ball (that's Irish), it's time to consider that he is in fact a legit entry in the third base pipeline.

His .264 average last year in the DSL did not draw much attention to himself, but his rampage through the GCL this year is hard to ignore. He began the year with an 11-game hitting streak, has 10 multi-hit games among the 18 he has played this year. At one point, on July 10, his average was up to .422 after a 9-for-18 four-game stretch. He has walked only three times (a true Dominican hitter) but has only 14 strikeouts in 18 games.

He has split his time evenly between third and first and all three of his errors game while playing third.

It's pretty cool to me that he started the year with an 11-game hit streak. Just coming back, trying to shake off rust, and to be that on the ball is nice.

Thanks rico. I think I'm the guy who asked (there may have been others asking the same question). He has had a very good GCL season.
